Today I am starting a 6 month experiment giving up aspartame (artificial sweetner commonly used in diet drinks but also in many other artificially sweetened products). has anyone else attempted this? What were your experiences?

I've been avoiding it for years. After I realised it was giving me chest pains and an irregular heart beat, I figured it was best to not consume it....

Never consumed it in vast quantities in the 1st place though.

I dont drink huge quantities (although its all relative) - I would guess between 500-750ml a day, didnt realise it was in a lot of cordials too...

I've prettymuch given it up. Was ill last year with glandular fever and still having liver tests done, so no alchohol or aspartime!

Finding it fine tbh but have put on a bit of weight from drinking regular soft drinks, gone from pepsi max to coca cola + irn bru!

Rarely have any myself. Normally found in yoghurts, diet drinks, chewing gum and artificial sweeteners (sugar replacements).

Mainly if I have any it'll be because its in a yoghurt. Not noticed any side effects.

Most fizzy pop is utter crap anyway, nowt wrong with water. No calories and perfect for rehydration.

Has been linked with brain tumours. Probably best to give it up if you can smile

Well it gets consistently cleared by various food agencies - but I cant help but feel that it cant be good to consume aspartame and all the other chemicals all the time...

I avoid it, when diet coke first came out it made me violently sick and now aspartame is one of the things that triggers my migraines. I'd rather have a lower amount of sugar.

Isn't he some sort of director/chairman of chemical company. Not one that has whopping great contracts in Iraq mind you. Oh no. No way. No conflict of interest there.

Do they do tin-foil hats with PH logos on them?

To OP, as a diabetic, rock and a hard place. Sugar drinks bad, sweetners bad too. I try and drink diluting juice at home, but am partial to diet coke with lime in it.

I used to
drink around 12 cans of diet coke a day. 4 weeks ago I stopped.

For the first couple of days I felt really tired and had a bit of a headache. I slept extremely well, though.

Now I feel a lot better. No more feeling depressed and having mood swings, no more going to pee all the time, and I sleep amazingly well. And my teeth are whiter.

I now drink 12 bottles of water a day smile
