Step away from the knife and the alcohol!
Self harming affects many people from all walks of life. Understanding why you feel tempted is one thing, stopping doing it can be quite another - the pain and the release can be quite something, and can be very difficult to kick, like an addiction.
I would suggest a chat to the Samaritans perhaps?

Agreed, a chat to someone might not be a bad idea, if only to let someone know how you're feeling and vent a bit. Have you tried talking to your GP about the pills and seeing if (s)he can suggest an alternative?Self harming affects many people from all walks of life. Sorry to hear you're having a rough time mate
Go directly to your GP, do not pass go, do not collect £200. GPs have a poor record for palming depressives off with happy pills, but you sitting with a knife in your hand contemplating selfharm should be pressing the GP's 'oh st' button and getting you a speedy(by NHS standards) apppointment with the trick cyclist and then a counsellor. If your GP is rubbish you may be better off trying NHS24 or the nearest A&E.
