I think I'll be a gut-bucket coach slob...

I've already posted on here that I've had a shoulder operation, to repair a tendon. The question this time relates to my other shoulder!
I gave it a hard whack nearly 6 weeks ago when I fell while skiing. It still bloody hurts (feels like where the deltoid and bicep meet) mostly when I stretch out or up. Needless to say I haven't tried lifting any weights.
I'm off to the physio on Monday, but the question is how long should I just stick with physio before I go to the quack and ask for a scan? I know that 3 - 6 weeks is the healing period, but as it will be 6 weeks this weekend and I'm still getting considerable pain I'm starting to wonder if it is healing at all
I guess having to use the arm as the other one is out of commission isn't helping.
Sorely tempted to give up all activities and become a blimp; the way I'm going I'll have a fantastically fit CV system and no working fecking joints/limbs
