So I've got free use of a gym, girlfriends dad lives 3 minutes away and has one in the basement of his building, free usage to residents and their guests.

Went today and did 10 minutes rowing, 10 cycling, 10 cross trainer, 10 running/jogging. Don't really know much about settings etc., just did what I felt comfortable with but took some effort.

I'm not overweight or anything, about 11st4, and 5'10. Planning on going 2/3 times a week, what's a decent sort of workout to burn a few calories, build stamina etc?

Can't you make it up? Just get the heart moving and make sure you are knackered afterwards. I know it's not scientific but if you want to "get fit" (burn calories, improve stamina, etc) it's such a vague target that if you're doing anything more than sitting watching the Simpsons, you're "getting fit". You could train for an event, of course...

I mean, you did a 40 minute cardio session. That's pretty good for a start.

5k run, 5k cycling, and 5k row. Back to back finishing them all within an hour would be a good challenge to start with.

Fair enough, sounds good to me. Don't want to start on something that'll be detrimental, but at the same time want to be able to achieve something. The 5k thing sounds good, but maybe I'll start with 1k!

If memory serves me correctly, doctors (or was it the government) recommend brisk walking for 30 minutes three times a week to the point where you find it a bit difficult to talk and feel sweaty.
