Polar Fitness Heart rate moitor users - new style?

Any users on here post their thoughst on the newer style of Polar Fitness HR monitors and the "Wear Link" straps?

I've had Polar units for many years and my old and faithful unit (with the T31 style strap) is reaching the end of it's life (it must be 5 years old) and so I've ordered one of the new FT80's like this:

it arrived today- and frankly I'm exceedingly underwhelmed and I'm trying to decide whether to keep it or not?? It seems very "toy-like" in comparison to my last monitor - and the new style straps, do not, at face value, seem to be very comfortable - what with the two metal buckles and the hook/catch thing. The watch is MUCH smaller than my last one and I'm not sure how legible the graphics will be (they seem much less bright in real life).

I was thinking of sending it back and getting one of the more traditionally styled Polar units the RS800CX - but I see that also uses the new style of straps (dont know what was wrong with the "old style" - I have never had any problems with mine!):

so does anyone have any experience of the new straps in use - do they bed in and bcome comfortable?..do you get used to the metal buckles/catches?

Should I be looking elsewhere than Polar?? Budget isnt an issues - just want to get the best tool for the job!
