Training heart rate.
Discussion
Good morning chaps.
Got a question. I am quite unfit and have recently started training.
My heart rate jumps to 182-184 when I am running at 8kmph on the treadmill. I run for about 15-20mins tops.
I am 29 years old, male, 5'10, 100kg, I have a broad frame and i am over weight but it does not look it. I generally have done very little exercise over the past 3 years. Now i am trying to get back into shape.
Is 182bpm a bit worrying?

I'm about the same age (30). As a comparison I hit 160 - 170 after 10 mins on the treadmill. But I'm only 70 KG. No real exercise to speak of for a long time (started at the gym again last week).
Not able to comment on what's good or bad. But so long as you're not having chest pain, seriously out of breath or feeling dizzy, and you're able to walk away and lift some weights afterwards. I wouldn't be too worried.
We're still young damnit!

My training consists of:
-15-20minute run at 8kmph
-20mins cross trainner
-12*5 50kg lifts on the thights (sitting down machine where you raise legs to lift weights)
-12*5 40kg lac weights machine which as a bar you pull down.
- 12*5 80kg pulling of weights when sitting down. works out chect and arms.
-12*5 40kg tri-cip machine.
Takes me 1.5+ hrs and i do it twice/3 times a week.

Surprisingly no dizziness. I was training 6 monts ago and had dizziness but i am fine now as i have just restarted after 3months. Feela bit lightheaded after the 40mins cardio but disappears quickly. My aim is to drop down to 80-85kg. I need to lose15+ kg. I hae already lost 2-3kg in 1 week.
I am on a maximuscle diet plan. started last week.

Your max rate should be approx 220 - your age = 191. So you're OK but operating near the max.
Fat loss exercise is around 75-85% of that = 143-162.
There are more accurate formulas but that's a good basic look at what you should be doing.
I dont actually know how all this heart rate training stuff works.Fat loss exercise is around 75-85% of that = 143-162.

My training is to lose weight, strengthen my heart. My father had a heart attack at 42ish, and died. He was accountant like myself, smoked 40 a day, unlike me and also had a lot of home made curries. Never exercised. I suppose you can see why I am worried.
What do you chaps think i shopuld do in terms of my approach to training?

to answer to OP i shouldn't worry too much but remember it doesn't need to be too intense, working at 60% of your max heart rate for 40-50mins is fine

3500 cals reduced is approx 1 pound lost.
1kg = 2.2 pounds.
Cals saved per week on diet plan 10500
Gym workout burns per week: 1800
Total saved in cals in week: 12300
pounds per week 3.5
kg per week 1.6
Kg per month 6.4
oh, its quite hard to get my heart rate to 60%. It would mean I would run at 6kmph. thats a fast walking pace. Looks lame in a gym when everyone is doing 10+kmph! I am struggling at 8! Trying to strengthen the heart muscle as well as develop my thigh muscles.
Focusing on lacs and thighs muscles as they are the largest in the body and hence help burn more cals.

I'm sure you have, but just in case you haven't ask your Doctor to check your blood pressure and cholesterol level. There is a condition called Familial hypercholesterolaemia which runs in families. shouldbworking said:

Abba go to a search engine type in Karvonen Heart Rate Training and it will tell you all you need to know, its a generic method (i.e 220 minus your age) but it will be slightly more accurate as it will tell you to take away your resting heart rate to work out your percentages.
There are more science based answers but it will get you going, if you buy a Polar T31 coded band it will work with Tecnogym equipment and most Life Fitness Kit, around £15.
Again search engine that (T31 coded heart rate band) and just buy a band if your using gym kit.

Are those heart rate monitors any good?
Like the OP I have similar health issues in my family and my chloestral is high.
I'm 5ft 7 and currently weighing in at 14 stone.
I've been back in the gym since the New Year and feel much better but I'm not convinced the weight is coming off as wuickly as possible.
Part of this is probably me not working myself hard enough (something I have been rectifying over the last couple of weeks).
I try and swim a couple of times a week and then get into the gym for some resistance training either once or twice a week.
I've also been trying to drink as much water as possible which helping with my hunger and watching what I eat.
I know it's not an over night process but i'm enjoying it!

Morning, i'd have a checkup just to be sure as taking your heart to 184 ( at such a slow speed ) is near 100% and only for the very fit, you might have plaque build-up that could dislodge, best to work at around 140 and lose the weight.Got a question. I'm 35 and hit 185+ but thats running @ 13 - 17kph for 45 minutes! and recover back too 120 in less than 2 minutes, @ 8kph i'd prob still be around 80bpm ( did you type speed correct? )
Best to be safe and good luck!

I was 184 yesterday at the gym at 8kph. 3 weeks ago I did a random run and was 173 bpm at 8kph for 20 minutes.
4 years ago i was road-running 5 miles in 40-45 minutes (11-12kpm). I was 13.5 stones (85kg).
