Does anyone on here use kettle bells?

Do you use them exclusively or do you combine them with other traditional compound barbell lifts?

I would quite like to start training with them but want to integrate them into my traditional strength training.

I have found this video which shows loads of different kettle exercises but not sure how best to utilise them.

I am training for Strength and muscle mass.

Before I inflamed a tendon I started using a KB in November.
Organised my routine by reading and watching Enter the Kettlebell by Pavel Tsatsouline. Very basic routine comprising of a push and a pull.
I combined it with a strength routine and some other interesting stuff, like farmer's walk, plyos, classes etc.

IMHO its just another fad !

From what I've seen, even the demo's on youtube its a back injury waiting to happen.

...and guess what, I go back to my gym after Xmas and they've got a load in, wasting floor space and replacing superior machines.

superior is surely a matter of opinion.
personally i hate the whole "one plane of motion" machines such as peck deck, OHP etc. much prefer to do such exercises with free weights. i.e. overhead press using olympic bar not a machine. though saying that, clean and press with a kettlebell i find better still, uses a lot more muscles but still incorporates the same movement from shoulder height to straight arms that an OHP machine would.

Don't get me wrong I generally prefer 'free weights' myself, but I think there was less potential for injury with these machines than the kettle bells, especially for a beginner.

I can't tell you how many people I see in the gym who obviously have not got a f***ing clue what they're doing.

At best they are just wasting their time, at worst they are gonna do themselves an injury. (But many also don't like taking advise, so I leave 'em to now)

This is the problem with 95-99% of gym around. It is cheaper to install equipment which even a child could work out how to use than it is to employ someone who knows what they are doing.

Fixed path machines lead to more long term damage to the individual as only the prime mover muscles get stronger.

Too many people think they know how they should be working out, rather than having thought the whole process through. Some trainers and instructors aren't a whole lot better, but they are being paid minimum wage. You tube videos do not help technique, it is just advertising for some people.
