I'm 22, 5'7 and 13.4 stone and have a 34 inch waist, I have lost 6 lbs since new year by literally eating my 3 main meals a day and nothing else, been to the gym only a couple of times. My normal daily diet is something like this:

Breakfast: Branflakes or Wheatabix and semi skimmed milk, no sugar and I sometimes have a banana with it.

Lunch: Never really very hungry at this point so an apple and Banana usually do me fine, or soup.

Dinner: Chicken and jacket potato

3-4 glasses of water during the day, don't drink tea or coffee very often.

No chocolate, crisps etc etc.

Yes I get moments of hunger, usually about 3PM but tend to have a glass of water and it usually goes away. I feel much more awake now and more energetic, the bags under my eyes are fading and the weight loss is starting to show, I am going back to the gym now after a months break, 3 to 4 times a week, mainly cardio with some weights. Does the above sound healthy? I want to be 12.5 stone and have a 32 inch waist by March, possible?

Diet looks alright at the moment but I suspect once you're back in the gym you'll need to up the calorie input to maintain your energy levels.

ETA I find that 6 smaller meals are better than 3. Keeps the metabolism constant and the hunger at bay.

I have breakfast, lunch and dinner as usual but have a mid morning protein shake, a late afternoon snack (usually nuts and raisin mix) then a late night protein shake. This works for me.

Haha. Well I'd say number 1 is pretty obvious - you're drinking more water to stave off the hunger.

Can't really help with the number 2 issue. Maybe it's because the water is lubeing the shoot somwewhat?!?

Easily possible.

As has been said, ideally, you need to eat 5-6 times a day - 300ish calories a time? maybe?

Exercising first thing in the morning will also help to boost your metabolism for the rest of the day.

Interval training is also a good one. It keeps the metabolism going a lot long after you've finished exercising.

Apparantly it's 70% diet and 30% exercise.

Should I do cardio in the morning before breakfast? How long should I ideally be aiming to train for?

yes im doing just this. at the moment im doing around 35mins medium intensity on the cross trainer. advice says to have heart rate at 60% of your max and build up to doing 40-50mins at a time. best time to do it if you can

plus if its before breakfast you have to burn fat as theres no food to provide energy

Look in to Basal Metabolic Rate and Harris Benedict formula:

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

You need to cover the basic calories needed for the body to operate - after that it's easy to see how you can start trading calories using diet and fitness.

3500 calories per pound, do it carefully so you don't lose muscle and the exercise will build muscle. The more muscle you have the more the muscle needs to be kept full of energy, the more you burn, the more you lose.

A week later I'm 13 stone now, seems to be working and I'm loosing the temptation to snack on crap. I'm still eating the 3 meals per day as it is very difficult to get the time to eat 5-6 smaller meals at the moment. Still getting moments of hunger and drinking water when that happens, having about 5-8 glasses a day. I have been running on the treadmill 3 times this week, just doing 25 minutes at the moment although I can see myself building that up to around 30-35 minutes in a week or so, I have also started to walk a mile around the block every night. I seem on average to be loosing about 3lbs a week, is this healthy? I'm showing it around the face in particular and I'm looking a bit trimmer around the waist.

Good on you! My main thing is to have more water (and give up smoking, but one thing at a time), given up crisps and chocolate, typically doing 5 gym sessions a week.

I think your weight loss is pretty healthy - its not the 6+lbs per week that you lose on a fad diet, you're just exercising sensibly, eating sensible meals - just what the doctor would probably suggest.

I hadn't felt or noticed it, but since mid December I've somehow lost around 12lb. colleagues reckon its mainly visible on the face. Its obviously not on the waist, had to wear my suit for a supplier visit yesterday, if I wasn't breathing in all the time it felt like a bleedin' wire round my waist. Ouch.

My face gets quite gaunt when I first lose weight - it seems to go from there first, bot my gut. irked
It eventually goes from everywhere and once I'm happy and swap to maintenance my face loses the gaunt look (still looks like I've had a losing battle with the ugly stick though).

I haven't done anyhthing too extreme and I haven't been 100% good with the food, but I think I'm easily on average 500 to 700 calories a day less than I was before and thats just the intake, combine that with the gym and its probably nearer 1000. I did eat a lot of crap.

great stuff! planning your food is a major part imo - otherwise you end up eating st - ensuring you have the right basic ingridients, the time to prepare, variation in recipies, fruit and lots of water. I also rarely eat bread now. Omelettes, salmon/tuna salads, chicken, wholemeal pasta and home made sauces are a staple part of my food intake.

But dont kill yourself! I have the full fat garlic bread, well whats left after the kids have demolished it! I'll also go out for a meal or take the kids for a pizza but pick wisely. Drink G&T (slimline) or vodka lime when out

I'm 6ft, was 13.10 last Jan, got down to 12.9 just before xmas and i am 12.12 atm. Would like to be between nearer 12.7 but with more muscle

Can't see any fruit or vegetables (for your 5 a day)in your diet apart from the apple which you definitely need for long term health. Banana & potato don't count for this nutritional intake.

Have lots of veg now with evening meals, I'm lucky as I quite like them.
