Shoulder pain

Stupidly I managed to go a cropper and fall down the stairs at home a few months ago and in doing so ended up with a pain my right shoulder for a couple of weeks. Felt kind of like a muscle strain I guess, right under the shoulder blade at the front. After a couple of weeks it sorted itself out.

I now have the same pain again, this time more intense if anything and occasionally a sharp shooting pain. Cannot think of anything in particular I have done to trigger it, but it is quite painful and some arm movements really make me wince.

Any chance I may have done a bit more damage in the original fall than just a strain? Who is best to advise on this, my GP or someone else? I only mention it as it is becoming a nuisance when driving and at work on the PC.

The shoulder can be a fecker to heal. I hurt my rotator cuff once and it took months to heal but that that was only aggravated during heavy lifting. It seems as you've give yours a right bang if your struggling doing stuff like driving.

Go to the quacks and he'll probably refer you to a physio.

Could have done all manner of things - stand in front of a mirror - do your shoulders look level? Is one pitched forward? If all does not look right you may have damaged the shoulder or you may have something like a rib out of place.

A Physiotherapist, osteopath or chiropracter would be a good port of call to see if they can at least tell you what you've done to yourself.

All looks straight. Am wondering now if it might be linked to the RSI/carpal tunnel pains which I have been experiencing in my right hand/wrist on and off for a couple of years, although I have improved this situation recently by changing my workstation layout and using a different type of computer mouse.

i think i had similar and it was things that had a blood thinning action which caused it to act up....

The fact that it originally started due to a fall would make me think otherwise.

I had similar tedious aching pain for several months, started under my shoulder blade, then worked its way over the top of my shoulder and into my bicep, over a period of about two months. The doctor merely wiggled my arm about and prescribed anti-inflammatories for a month, which were useless.

I got into Google and learned that the most common cause of shoulder pains is incorrect posture at the computer. At both home and work I tended to lean forward to see the screen properly, resting on my elbow usually, and that was the main time it frequently hurt most. That very day I changed my posture, sat up, raised the monitor, and the pain went away that day!!!

Several months later I got a twinge in my other shoulder, right on the top, when doing some heavy lifting, and that is now spreading and aching...... frown

Go to the doctors mate get it checked could be a tear or Impingement etc best get it looked at!!!

Yeah, get it checked.

I've just come home today from surgery. The MRI scan showed nothing significantly wrong, but I decided to go for keyhole to trim away some bone in the socket to give the tendons some room.

Anyhow, the tendon was torn away from tyhe top of the ball joint so it's had to be pinned in place - and I've now got the prospect of 6 weeks with virtually no exercise! Three weeks in a sling, keeping my arm close to my body, three weeks of assisted lifting only (using my other hand to raise my arm) then starting out with very gentle theraband exercise. No driving for 6 weeks either, and it scuppers my ski holiday plans for late March frown

So yes, get it checked out but just be aware that the MRI scan might not show the real problem; as has been said the shoulder is complex and a bloody hard thing to repair.

Oh yeah - my 'good' shoulder is also fecked, as I crunched it while skiing three weeks ago. So I'm off to the physio for both the operated shoulder AND the 'good' one next week. Bummer...
