At hospital tomorrow to have both cameras inserted into my person. One in stter, one in throat, hope they clean it before they use it in my mouth.

Anybody had this done before? What is it like? Never had anything like this before so am stting myself, maybe litterally tomorrow.

Going under some sort of sedation, is that correct? whats it like afterward as aparently I can't drive for at least 24 hours.

If one camera can see the other during this procedure, there's something wrong with you...

I've had an endoscopy before. Not nice.

Try not to vomit on the nurse.

Sedation??? I had an anaesthetic for the bum camera. From memory (I try to blank that area of my mind), it is only about 12 inches long, mainly being the handle, and they insert just the very narrow head about 1 or 2 inches.

Snag is, it extends via a telescopic mechanism and you can feel every time it goes round a corner or extends. It was quite uncomfortable every time it extended or cornered and I involuntarily tensed which made it even more painful so you have to tell yourself to relax. I watched the TV and could see the intestinal walls close around it when I tensed. (It was very clean and pink as you have an enema beforehand... hold for as long as possible... about 10 minutes... rush to the toilet... feel the world fall out of you.) When they pulled it out, it was about 2 metres long and wiggling like some robotic snake.

The anaesthetic kicked in 15 minutes after the procedure while I was in recovery and my whole body went numb just like with the dentist's injections. Great.

Have fun! biggrin

I had an endoscopy a few months ago. They're more uncomfortable than painful, and you will gag a bit when they first insert it into your throat. I didn't have sedation though, just a throat spray. Not sure if you're as hard as me though. wink

same as me, was told the throat spray would be suffice.

dont beleive a word of it. four nurses basically holding me on the bed, one stopping me from pulling the endoscope out for the second time. the single most un pleasant thing ive experienced. only thing that came close was another hospital related thing, have a barro....... something up one of my nostrils and down into the back of my throat. also got pulled out by me at the first attempt.

get sedated and good luck.

i got 'scoped a couple of years ago, with sedation, i can remember any details (probably due to sedation) but i do know it was fairly unpleasant. I had a properly sore throat for a week or so after. In fact I could barely speak with the mother in law came round for - pity it didnt affect my hearing!

Had my endoscopy a couple of weeks ago; just the throat spray as I went on my own and had to drive home. Wasn't as bad as the barium enema I had a few months back; yuk!

I had the bum camera thing. They told me that if I took sedation I couldnt drive for 24 hours, so I went without as it was a nice weekend and I'd just bought an Elise (PHer to the end)

Have the sedation. Seriously. It hurts, especially if they have to take a biopsy.

It's not that bad though - I would imagine it is a doddle with the drugs. They pump you full of air as well to help the camera have a better view, so you spend the afternoon farting like a god.
