I've got a burn from hauling logs into the woodburner and catching my wrist on the edge of the thing. It's about 30mm long and 5mm wide at the widest part.

This was before Christmas and the scab has only just come off. It's also very weepy and sore. I suspect it may be a full thickness burn, however do I need to bother a doctor with it since it is so small?

There are no signs of infection that I can see. Will it just heal on its own? Any advice from the PH docs?

TVMIA.

I can recommend ' Jelonet' guaze dressings. It is a paraffinn base dressing and is very kind to an open burn.

Did something similar last year whilst messing around in the engine bay of the TVR and caught my inner forearm on the exhaust manifold. I just put some burn cream on it and kept it covered up when there was a chance something nasty could get in it. Healed up byitself with a scar.

Isn't seawater/salt water supposed to be very good for burns?

I remembera friend of mine had a very nasty burn on his ankle from stepping in a fire (accident), but it was just before he went away on a surfing holiday, in that week (a lot of time spent in the sea obviously) it had pretty much fully healed.

Good tip for a fresh burn is to rub the juice of an Aloe plant (real stuff not creams or such like) - just cut a bit of the leaf off and rub the gooey juice over the burn. The pain will be gone in an instant and will heal quicker and with little or no soreness - really is amazing.

Lemon juice then salt. Works a treat and really takes your mind off the burn.

Anyone else reading this, smirking slightly because 'burn' looks a bit like 'bum' when you've left your specs upstairs?

How is the burn MC?

I used to to catch my arm on the roasting pan on my old cooker. The pan was attached to the door so would swing out then you opened the door, made reaching for the potatoes a risk as the oven gloves only cover so much of my arm. Done it more than once and have the scars frown
