Two questions really, in 1996 I had a disectomy on my back to repair a slipped disc. It has given me no bother since. I am 45 and 4 stone overwieght. Is using a rower going to injure my back or will it make it stronger.

Secondly, bearing in mind it will cost me £20 in petrol to pick it up, what do you value this old girl at?

Well a concept 2 rower currently retails at somewhere around £900. I had always thought they retained their value when I seen them resold from gyms.

Make sure all cables / chains etc are in order before you use it. Replacement parts shouldn't be too difficult to come by as Concept 2 is the preferred rower in the major gym chains.

If I was closer to where it is I would consider it a bargain.

I'd be careful if I were you - rowers tend to either suffer from bad backs or bad knees (it was my knees that gave out first). Certainly you could expect trouble if your technique isn't 100%; don't underestimate the strain you will put on your lower back.

My knees are made of cream cheese after buggering them running in my teens and 20's

For the last 10 years I row and/or cycle 3-4 times a week
This week its been 4 rowing sessions smile

I get the occasional twinge and stop for the session

Other than that its fine

I was on holiday last year and went for a run as I wasnt enjoying being inactive
My knee played up within 15 mins and put me off the rower and the bike for weeks afterwards

Sorry cant help with backs - mines fine
