Gout generally affects the Big toe joint or the ankle, becomes red and hot and VERY painful (can't even bear the duvet on it). It doesn't normally result in the swelling of the whole foot.
If it is gout, you need to have a blood test from the GP to confirm raised Uric Levels, the normal treatment is with NSAID's. If you are able to take Ibuprofen then this will help but the GP will probably give you something a little less irritable to your stomach.

For what it's worth I've had both gout & cellulitis.
The gout started regularly about 7 years ago - 1st time I thought I'd broken my big toe and went to A&E. The doctor thought so too and sent me for X-Rays, then couldn't understand what it was - very, very painful. Local GP laughed and spotted it straight away!
I then had regular flare ups, eventually affecting both big toes and my fingers. This pattern has been shown by several middle aged friends and colleagues who have started with it; none have been lucky enough to have one attack. My uric acid levels were off the scale and I was given a masking type drug but told it may then be long term so didn't bother and have cured it myself.
Indomethecin was the best drug I was given, concentrated cherry juice helped and diet did bugger all - I didn't eat most of the things the doctors/reference books etc. stated as likely causes though was on a high protein level, so that may not have helped. However, despite one doctor telling me alcohol was an old wive's tale I noticed a strong link; eventually, after off periods even one glass of wine often led to an attack or at least signs of it next day. I have now been tea-total for over a year and have had NO more attacks!
The cellulitis may have been from a foot infection or insect bite and I'd echo the comment about getting it checked a.s.a.p. I felt ill one morning, said to my wife I thought I might be coming down with flu and by 9.00 am was hardly able to function. It was just like a very bad dose of flu for 2 dyas until the leg started to swell and harden and it got correctly diagnosed. It grew to twice the thickness, was very 'tight', patchy/flaky, oddly coloured and hurt like hell. It was especially bad as the blood flowed back in when sitting up after being in bed.
Don't know if it has to follow feverish signs etc. though, to be honest.
