Had a bit of a weak back for some years now, but really pissed off today. All feeling well, in fact very well, so off to the gym to do some deadlifts.

All warm and no pain - then twang! Fecking agony! ANd less than a week before going skiing.

It really sucks frown

When I saw the word massage in the link it conjured up a vision of something more human and female....... So I'm somewhat disappointed to find it's a chair; but for the price of three 45 minute sessions with my (admittedly rather attractice) physiotherapist I could get one of these I suppose.

Or drop in at Fleet Services tomorrow where they have them on a slot machine basis.

The chairs, not the attractive physio.

£20 a time for a 30min back, neck and shoulder massage once a month works wonders for my back! (also a construction worker who used to suffer frequently)

Sounds like you got off lightly.

That's what I was told by my physio even though I am still unable to get on the toes of my left foot neearlt two months later.

I also did my back in doing deadlifts, but in hindsight I didn't warm up. 3 sets of seated rows and then onto deads because I was trying to do chest and back on the same day.... to catch up on a lazy week. The third rep of my fourth of five sets and it felt as though i'd been kicked in the left side of my lower back.

The doctor at the hospital and my gp thought it was an injury to my glute, but the physio has found the injury to be in my back. My left glute and leg have no strength so I had a crutch for a month or so, but still can't walk without a limp.

Where abouts is the pain? If it's anything like mine (arse cheek, leg and lower back) I can tell you the exercises I am doing between physio.

Mine is straight across the ower back, just above the cocyx. No pain in glts other than from tension (and in both quads) from not being able to straighten properly.

I'm using one of those tube things to open up the spine, and it does make a bit of temporary difference. Physio is off skiing!Hopefully back tomorrow.

Find a Bowen therapist. I read about this technique on PH earlier in the year, and it does work. 'Backs' a speciality.

I spent 12 months looking forward to my holiday in Mauritius and then spent 3 days in hospital with a bad back (trying to beat the wife at Golf). Been suffering since October now and cant wait to see a specialist in the New Year.

Yep, I started a thread about this a while back. My mum was constantly hunched up in absolute agony nearly to the point of being wheel chair bound for the rest of her life. Nobody could could anything for her any more having seen many top specialists in their field.

After a couple of sessions of Bowen, she was walking upright and able to get on with life......unbelievable.

It's been about 3 months or so now and although she will never be out of pain, due to her condition, it is apparently at a level she can cope with. She is now gardening again and able do things she never thought possible. biggrin Although she does still need to go back ever now and then for another session.

I can't speak highly enough of the technique although it may not always be suitable for everybody. But for the sake of about £30 a session it's well worth a punt.
