There must be some people on here that have had this, I experienced what I think was sleep paralysis last night. Is it common for it to happen again, and what the fudge causes it in the first place?

I believe it comes as part of the onset of Teh Ghey.

My ex reckons once or twice she 'woke up' but felt she was trapped inside her own dead body? Is that what it's like?

Your brain has a safety mechanism which effectively "unplugs" the nerves which supply your muscles. This mechanism is activated while you're asleep, and prevents you from moving around when you're dreaming. Sleepwalking is thought to be a malfunction in this system, as is the more full-on kind of automatism demonstrated by that poor chap who killed his own wife while dreaming. Sometimes, especially if you're woken by an outside stimulus like an alarm clock (as opposed to waking up naturally), you wake up before this system is disarmed, and lie there for a short time wondering why the hell you can't move. It is a weird feeling.

ETA that there is a Wiki article HERE which has more information. The condition also seems to be the root of witchcraft or paranormal stories in many cultures.

Apparently this occurs a lot in people who believe they'd been abducted by aliens (If you read most cases, people claim to feel paralysed)

A Mail link.

Do the comments blame the darkies or the single mothers?

I sometimes get it when i nap on the sofa. REALLY weird! For me it only really happens when i'm not actually that tired but still nod off anyway.

Scary stuff. I normally just try really hard to sit up and i quickly regain control of my body.

Can never understand why my ass hurts after though. wink

I used to get this a lot. A wonderfully strange sensation of not being able to move a muscle including not able to open your eyes. Lasts for between 5 and 10 seconds.

had she just accepted a drink off a fat, balding man, did she wake up in a shed with wheels?

I've had it last a lot longer than that, haven't experienced it for the last four years thankfully.

Had this a couple of times.

Last time was when i was in my second year at uni, would be 5 years ago now i suppose.

Basically i "woke up" at about 1000 but couldn't pysically move but could see and hear what was going on around me, i could hear my housemates get up and go downstairs etc. I was like this until around 1730!! when i could finally get up and go downstairs, my housemates were a bit surprised...they assumed i'd gone home for the weekend and just not told them.

It was very unpleasent, being fully concious but physically paralysed.
