Yellow Toenail Getting Loose
Discussion
My big toe nail has been yellow for about 6 years, 3 weeks ago I decided to do something about it and went to the doctors. They gave me drugs to kill the fungus which can take up to 3 months to kill it and then longer for the new nail to grow.
Just now I have realised my yellow toe nail is getting lose, but its absolutely pain free. If I lift it gently you can hear it rip off the skin, and it apppears to be held in mainly by the nail bed.
I'll be away from the doctors for a few days now, but what should I do? Its mighty tempting to pull it off, it a sadistic kind of way.

A couple of years ago i had 2 fungus toenails (on adjacent toes)
Stubbed my toe a beauty on one of them and nail came off and grew back good as new.
The other took 6 months of the prescribed drugs to kill the fungus off fully.
It is tedious, but worth the long haul.
As for home surgery, i am a big fan, get the pliers to it!

The following is based on you being fit and well.......
If it's loose and doesn't hurt when tugged then pull it off.
If you're on the systemic antifugals then you would be wise to also go get yourself some fungal nail paint from the chemist and apply this as instructed for the next 12 months or so. Much better chance of getting rid of the fungal infection with combined therapy.
Something like Curanail will do it.
The thing to bear in mind with fungal nails it the tablets don't actually kill the fungus already in the nail, they just stop it from spreading. That's why you need to treat it for such a long period of time i.e. the time it takes for a new nail to grow out (9-18months).
3 months of medication is often not long enouigh.
