Had a knee arthroscopy 2 days ago to clean up some torn and flappy meniscus cartilage. I'm completely gobsmacked at just how fast the recovery is these days.

15 years ago in 1994 I had the same knee arthroscopy operation and recall being on crutches for a week or more and unable (or not supposed to) bend leg for 7 days. Full recovery took perhaps 8 weeks.

This time around:
Day 1: Used one crutch for first 12 hours, heavy limp.
Day 2: (today) No crutches needed, walking 75% normal and have 50%+ of knee bend back.

Any medics on here? Has the procedure changed all that much, or is it simply the post-op that's changed?

It's a real bugger mending so fast - was looking forwards to having Mrs goodlife do all the driving over Xmas while I enjoyed the "festive spirit" beer

Snap!

Had one 9 years ago - on crutches for about 2 weeks followed by a long recovery.

Had another 6 weeks ago. Walked out (carefully), was driving after 4 days and now 6 weeks on am just beginning to recommence light training (on physio's direction).

Get well soon, hopefully sooner than you thought!

Having had 3 arthrosopies on both knees over 4 years, I found it's down to the individual surgeon. My recovery varied from 2 weeks on crutches and a lot of pain to 12 hours on crutches and almost no pain, despite all of the procedures being the same.

It'll also depend on what they had to do in surgery.

That's a very worrying indictment. My first one was in the UK by a well known and respected specialist who's written books on orthopeadic surgery (long recovery), then last weeks intervention was in France with a well recommended surgeon (quick recovery).

Perhaps it's more to related to the amount of work they need to do once inside? Any surgeons on here to comment?

Had a knee Arthroscopy+partial meniscectomy on new years eve , came out the same day walked to the car (no crutches) 10min walk, did not drive told no driving for at least one week , walking around the house today without to much pain, but the pain Thursday night and New years day was bad,
did ask the consultant just before the op how long i would be away from my beloved running (sad git I know) he said about 2 weeks, thought that was a bit ambitious, but who knows , let you know in a couple of weeks confused

crikey! that does sound like a short time. I'm about 8 weeks in and still no running. (running is pretty bad for you really, might have to buy a road bike me thinks!)
