It's not ideal for the bony socket to be exposed as it increases the risk of infection and post-op pain.

The socket can be plugged with what amounts to an artificial 'clot'.

If you are not in pain and having no problems keeping it clean then they may suggest leaving it as it is.

(this is purely an opinion, without the benefit of examination, so please don't challenge the dentist with 'another dentist said...') wink

the pain dictates what is done....dry socket=pain..=delayed healing. Live with it if you can....surprising how well things heal up.

Another "no pain-leave it alone" here. You'd certainly know if you had alveolitis (dry socket) as it would hurt like a fker.

The hole with fill up with fibrous tissue which will become bone in the bottom and gum on top. Give it 3 months.
