Went to the dentist this morning, only to be told one of my wisdom teeth had to come out. After a couple of injections, and hearing my tooth 'crack' when it was being taken out, i'm now sat at my desk with a thumping headache feeling quite sorry for myself.
This got me thinking - why do we get wisdom teeth anyway, and what is/was their purpose?
I only grew 3, 2 of which need to come out. I am doing it slowly as I get the money with all the other dental work i've not had done due to being broke. I've had one out so far, no headaches or anything. I had 6 teeth out (overcrowding + milk teeth not dropping) when I was younger and this was no worse.
mine only started to grow after i had some back teeth removed about 7 years ago.
they seem to be slowly pushing forward to fill in the gaps so i guess they do work after all!
luckyly they seem to have come through straight and only hurt every now and again which im putting down to 'growing pains'.

What age did everyone get theirs? It sounds daft but I'm not sure I have mine! I do remember extra teeth coming through when I was about 15 but is that too early?
ETA: I just checked a diagram, I don't have wisdom teeth! Apparently up to 35% of people won't develop any. I'm 23 now so fingers crossed I won't get them at all!
