I've gone deaf
Discussion
how long in terms of days? total loss or just a woolly sound?
i've had quite long spells of damage, up to 2-3 days from nightclubbing days, but these days i stay well away from the speakers.
I know they like music loud, but when it's at the point it causes lasting damage, they need to get that sorted.

Best thing for you to do is have a good dig around with a sharp object, a pen would be best. Of course you could do the girlie thing and use a cottonwool bud. HTH
Never put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear, they say.So just put your elbow in and have a good dig around.
You could try olive oil, this could loosen any wax build up. Of course, if you've perforated something, the oil might run through to your brain, or nose, or something!

Im deaf in my left ear since Faithless last week, any tips to restore sound?
STOP GOING TO LOUD CONCERTS! You'll regret it bitterly when you are my age and you hear that loud ringing sound, that you can always hear for a few days after loud concerts, but 24 hours a day, every day.
Your ear was probably battered by the sound and oozed out some sort of discharge, which blocked it, See the doc and he'll peer into it.
Hmmm, not sure how to break this to you.... However... I went to a rock concert just over 16 years ago. Thought the lead singers voice sounded funny during the gig and covered up each ear in turn to find it sounded like he was singing under water on my right hand side.
Came out of the gig with the usual ringing in the ears, thought it would be fine in the morning as it had been coutless times before.
I've been 80% deaf in my right ear ever since... Never came back.
As has been suggested, I recommend a trip to your doctors in the morning and get referred for tests.

What you describe is more likely to be a blockage (hopefully).
Any dizzyness? pain under your ear or clicking when you swallow?
Get to GP asap. I had this recently and it took ages to get sorted out, losing me around £800 worth of work.
Damage to your ears is not like bruises, they are unlikely to recover.

FFS, I love blasting heavy metal through my ear phones and going to concerts, this thread is extremely depressing
Don't worry about it. Do like most of us did, and ignore the advice, then in 20-30 years time you can relate the story to the youth of the day and watch as they ignore you too.tubbystu said:

Go to your doctor, tomorrow !!That's all.
As a sound engineer that has done countless gigs/festivals, i've known people to have had their hearing wrecked for 3-4 days.
BTW it's usually the loud roar of the crowd that causes hearing problems at gigs not the sound system and there may have been some twunt yelling or whistling standing beside you on your left so don't panic too much.
You may start to notice that speech is distorted in that ear with ringing. If so it should improve but can take a few days. No doubt there is some damage though so be careful in future.

Ditto from Metallica gig due to being near speakers, although not as bad as Racefans fortunately, hope yours is just perforated drum/infection.Came out of the gig with the usual ringing in the ears, thought it would be fine in the morning as it had been coutless times before.
