How long did it take you to get used to them?

I feel like I have air being blown into my eyes, and if I look hard right/left, I can feel them pressing against my eyes.

I'm using Acuvue Oasys (For Astigmatism).

Only a few days, persevere with them, it's worth it. If you're still not happy after a week try a different brand.

I don't remember any discomfort when I started wearing them. But that was a long time ago now. I think I remember gradually increasing how long I wore them for though, do they still recommend this?

If you're experiencing discomfort though, give you're optician a call.

The first pair were awful. then the second pair - slightly bigger diameter fitted straightway. I didn't even know I was wearing them.

about 2 hours.. hehe.. Have you got any of the drops? I'd get some from boots or something. About 3 quid. When they start to get dry just squirt some in and it re hydrates them.

As said above just start wearing for 4 hours then gradually lengthen the time wearing then. Then they will be comfortable for a full day. Worked for me anyway.

^^this! A couple hours! hehe everyone is different though.

I'm currently trialing new lenses with a higher oxygen storage capacity. Much more comfortable! Last longer too.

Daily disposables or just one set? Both quite different!

did you get a session from a contact lens fitter, or have you bought off the net. Sounds a little like your diamater or base curve might be off a little. I would pop into a opticians and get them to measure you up (if you haven't already)

I tried the acuvue oasis once. They are the two-weekly ones if my memory serves me right? More comfy than my current monthlies for the first few days then they started to "dry out" a bit. They were also more expensive so reverted back to monthlies.

As suggested might be worth checking the fit and that you are not putting them in back to front (easily done) but easy to correct once you recognise their correct shape prior to insertion!

few days to get used to them, I wear Focus Daily's. They tend to dry out a bit by the end of the day, if i'm staring at the computer screen for too long at work or stood in front of an a/c unit, but the eye drops work well to ease this.

Practice for a while & see how you get on.

are they hard / gas permeable or soft? soft take the least amount of getting used to.
been wearing contacts for 26 years. soft work well for me , daily disposables so that i have a sterile pair everyday and do not have to worry about losing them

Bingo

Had exactly the same problem with these lenses over the summer. Gave me all sorts of trouble. Had to revert to a month with my specs to let my eyes recover and now I'm on dailies.

To be honest, I've had them for awhile now, but just never bothered with them. Been wearing my glasses, but with the weather starting to heat up(It's raining today), I really want to give these contacts a go.

Wearing contacts gives a bigger, clearer view of Everthing, but I actually feel abit self-conscious not wearing my glasses. Anyone else experience this?

I've worn contacts for about 3 of the last 9-10 days, but each day, I've worn them for about 12 hours. Too much too soon perhaps?

yeah i'd of thought 12 hours is definetly too long. I was told 4 to 6 hours to start. Now I can have them in for 12 hours or longer but have to put a few drops in after 12 ish hours to keep fresh.

I actually feel more self concious with my glasses on. Hate wearing them now hehe

Yep, you should probably wear them more frequently and for shorter periods. You'll get used to them quite quickly.

It's normal to be self concious when a major part of your face changes how it looks.

But then again, some of us just look good all the time. cool

Thanks for the replies.

I'll try wearing them for 4 hours at a time and see if they become more comfortable.

The self conscious thing is really annoying.

As others have said. 12 hours is definitely too long, especially as you've only just started wearing them. I was told that 12 hours was the max you should ever really wear them - although this might vary between different types of lenses, and I occasionally wore mine for longer without any issues.

It also depends what you're doing - for example, I found going to the cinema in them having worn them all day was a bad idea. You don't blink as much when staring at a big screen, and with the bright screen in a dark room I found they dried out and my eyes felt tired very quickly.
