my wife now falls into the 'highest-risk' group as she is pregnant and has been told to got to our gp for the vaccine, is this really necessary? after all its just flu isnt it?

i dont really fancy her being used as a guiea pig, i assume it has been tested thoroughly?

any advice greatfully received.

Yes, but it does affect pregnant women more than most. FWIW SWMBO is a pregnant GP and she's had it.

It gave me a sore arm for a week, and apparently a lot of people are reporting flu-like symptoms for a couple days after.

80% chance of the vacine being effective, 0.01% chance of complications, thats what I have read.

I suspect you'd still be alive if you hadn't had it too.

I had mine last week and it gave me an incredibly sore arm and jawline. Bruising is still there but seems alright now.

Until I got swine flu then the shoe could be on the other foot.

They say it has, but I don't feel that pregnant women would allow themselves to be guinea pigs, how many babies have been born to women that have had the vaccine? How long would it take to show up if the vaccine had affected the baby?

Could have been, if you have "serious underlying health conditions" that is. wink

Had my jab last Saturday morning and my arm still hurts if touched, at least the swelling has gone down now though!

I had the seasonal flu and the Swine flu jabs last Tuesday as I am high risk due to cancer and 2 rare diseases which are side effects from my chemo. My Swine jab arm became very swollen and boiling hot. Today is the first day I have felt better having been in bed since Wednesday. I also suffered from nausea badly.

I had the swine flu vaccine last week. Didn't get offered it, but asked for it. My arm hurt for two days but that's a lot more pleasant than getting swine flu. I really just had it to see what the hype was about. If I was 'at risk' though, I'd definitely have it. It's only slightly different to any other flu vaccine, it's hardly like it's a completely new agent that has never been used before. I doubt there is any danger, and having seen my friend go through normal flu with asthma, I definitely think flu vaccination is a good idea for those at risk.
