walking versus cycling

Don't know about weight loss but a rule of thumb for fitness cycling:running is a 4:1 ratio, so a 1 hour run has roughly the same benefit as a 4 hour cycle.
I live most of the way up a big hill and in order of effort, running up it is toughest, followed by cycling, then walking so I'd say cycling is better than walking assuming it's not all downhill
Buy/borrow a heart-rate monitor and see what the difference is between each activity.
