Hi

Are there any hand physio therapists on here?

I am looking for a sheet of the meltable/bendable stuff to form a semi hard half cast for my elbow.

Where could I buy from some?

Long story of woe on the NHS.

thanks

Hi

To add some more detail....

to star with, I walked onto a pillow on a shiny wood floor. Alas, I had a bannana skin moment, flew into the air twice, then landed on my left elbow - breaking it twice and falling through a champagne glass - damaging my ulna nerve.

Subsequent operations have left me with a semi healed nerve, and a transposed ulna nerve.

Basically ... when the cast was made - my arm had been broken for a number of weeks - and so was consequently quite thin.

The cast was made of a single rectangle of plastic melted into an L shape that held the elbow in one position. It was made by teh hand therapy unit of Chelsea. There are 4 straps of velcro that enable me to take the cast on or off.

The problem I have, is that the cast needs to be broadened in order to get round a more regular sized arm. I have tried melting it in the bath, with no success.. and am concerned using hot water may render it useless.

Essentially, my nerve was transposed this year. Unfortunately it had healed to the bone and not stayed put in the artificial loop. This had caused my arm to not extend fully - as if it had been "miss-attached".

Alas, a month ago I ripped the nerve off the bone - now in excrutitaing pain and am taking 10 opiates plus a day to get through.

Each minor move is like a paper cut - slowly ripping and ripping ...the rips cause severe nausea and vomiting :*(

As mentioned i have an appoitment - but it is not for a few weeks. I have been and been sent away from A&E.

All I can say is good luck, I've broken my elbow before so I feel your pain.
