So, i know you shouldnt dig warts out, but what if you did?
Discussion
Because i've got a monster of a wart on my leg just below my knee, and it hurts when i kneel on it (which i pretty much have to do, at work), i cant be bothered with putting bazooka on it for the next 4 years, i dont live in the uk at the moment (or ever if i have it my way) so i dont get free dr based stuff. So i thought i might just try slice off the sticky out'ness then once it stops bleeding, forget about it till next time it annoys me!
sweet, my kind of answer, pistonheads, for all my man needs!
alcohol in my system i presume for courage and pain dulling, not to sterelise the wound i presume?
What happens when you cut off warts, do they usually stay down for a while or do they come back harder and faster for revenge!

They can do if you leave the root in.
Way back when I was a teen I had one on my wrist. Used the usual stuff but could'nt get rid.
In the end I took a razor blade to it, then applied wart remover to the wound.
Left a big hole through the skin, which was a bit manky for a while until it healed over.
Never came back.

My ex had them on the bottom of her feet. Loads of them in clumps that nothing could touch.
Eventually I ended up using a scalpel knife and cutting out sections of skin off the soles to get the hard skin off deep enough to take all the roots with it.
I would chop out a section of skin about 2 cm square by chopping it into little bits and then using tweezers to yank each little piece of skin off. Down to a depth of about 3mm or so.
Made her hobble for a week or so each time... but it got rid of them.
She used to cry and bleed a bit (a lot) each time...
... ah sweet memories

Duct tape !
Put a piece of duct tape over it and leave it for a week or so. You will be surprised to learn that it will go soft and disintegrate.
Google it - it works apparently. Something to do with depriving the area of oxygen I guess.
Works even better if you put banana skin on the verruca Again, Google it if you don't believe it works.Put a piece of duct tape over it and leave it for a week or so. You will be surprised to learn that it will go soft and disintegrate.

My Stepdad is a Chiropodist and does this all the time, but without the mega bleeding (he's really good at what he does). He also applies a strong acid mix under a plaster/bandage which you leave on for a week and don't get wet. Burns the f-er out. Couple of sessions and you're done.Eventually I ended up using a scalpel knife and cutting out sections of skin off the soles to get the hard skin off deep enough to take all the roots with it.

I had one on the inside of my nostril.. burnt off with the medical equivalent of a fecking soldering iron, but not until I'd had an injection UP my nose..
Imagine pulling a nasal hair out, then multiply it by the biggest factor you can think of, that's a hypodermic cutting through the skin inside your nostril!!
Seeing smoke licking out of my face (I wasn't a smoker at the time) and the smell of burnt flesh inside my nose wasn't the nicest of experiences!

According to a dermatologist I know:
Warts are caused by a virus. Your immune system needs to recognise that there is an infection, then it will deal with it. Acid, liquid nitrogen, or wielding the knife physically removes the bulk of the wart, but the real benefit is when the treatment damages the infected tissue at the boundary with healthy tissue so that some of the virus gets into your blood stream and gives your immune system another chance to spot it and kick in. This can take ages, or if you're lucky it'll happen very quickly. Once your immune system has attacked the virus and dealt with it, the lump of skin should clear up in about 1 month as that's roughly how long it takes your skin to replace itself. So give the thing a bashing until it damages some healthy tissue immediately adjacent to it and do that regularly until the thing starts to clear up.

Nip into your GP and ask for Cryotherapy (freezing wart off with liquid nitrogen). Its the next step after Salicylic acid doesn't work.

Well bigfatnick, might I suggest that if you don't have the safety net of decent, free primary care, for fks sake don't start digging around in your flesh to remove a wart.
Hello infection!
In countries where primary care isn't laid on free, often the pharmacist is a good port of call. They'll probably do over-the-counter DIY cryotherapy products. Better than salicylic acid.
captainzep, i had kinda thought about that, but considering i came to canada to do mountainbiking (read, mashing dirty pedals into my shins) i hadn't worried about it. I had however worried about that tree bloke who cut his knee and had warts cover his entire body. Thought to be fair, i recon the chances are pretty slim! haha
