I recently went to the opticians and got some new glasses. Perscription has changed only a little (-3.5 to -3.25 and -3.75 to -4.00). However, I just can't seem to get on with the new glasses. Everything below the middle just looks out of focus, like 2 misalligned images, and there is a lot of distortion around the edges. Optician claims it's because they are 1.67 index lenses (I had 1.6 before) but surely even high index lenses should give you clear vision accross your field of view??

I'm going back in for a re-check tomorrow but I wanted to see if anyone on here could give me some unbiased advice? I would be very grateful.

I was once told that only varifocals (sp) would have a misty area until you went for super duper expensive ones where the out of focus was minute. Single lens should be perfect all over

I had new varifocals 5 weeks ago and they went back on Monday. The right lens is very blurred on the periferal. The long distance vision is not sharp either. The heights are also incorrect. So every time I move my eyes are swimming and they were causing me real problems when driving.

I have been wearing varifocals for years and NEVER had any trouble. The lenses were the most expensive ones.

It has been explained to me that some makes are ground from the inside and others from the outside which can affect some people.

I asked if the lenses are made to zero tolerances and was told no.

I've had problems for a couple of years. I don't think much to the newer opticians who seem to rely on the gadgets to come up with the right prescription. Too little time with the patients these days.
