Removing a Verruca?
Discussion
I was talking to my brother earlier, he's got a verruca and wants rid of it fast. Only thing is those freezing kits are a little on the pricey side, so he's asked me what would I use. I have no idea, so naturally, straight to PH! So guys, apart from those expensive freezing kits, what should he use to remove a verruca of about 1cm diameter? I suggested standing on a bag full of ice barefoot, bit of a cheapskate way of doing things but hey, I'm a student.
Ooooooooooooh, I had a proper full on war with a wart (similar sort of thing) and tried the freezing kit and it would appear to cause it pain but it came back again and again. I finally had enough and cut it out and it worked, didn't even scar:
Warning, there is a bit of blood visible.....................

I used fuming nitric acid at uni. Followed by a dig with a pair of medical forceps. Then allow to harden, by applying calcium sulphate. Repeat the following night. Took a few days. In the end it gave up. The bloodvessels/nerves are the bugger when you're scraping. Don't get any on fresh skin.
I used ethanoic anhydride on a wart which spuriously arrived. It had the bonus of smelling nice and I could chew it off and it was a bit like pickled onion monster munch meets pork scratchings.

Went to Toe Quacker today to have mine zapped..
Been there years.. tried all manor of lotion, potion, cream and fluid.. nothing killed them, and some just made them worse.
£45 and 5 mins of liquid nitrogen today and I'm hopeful of a total removal.. I'll let you know.. but by the time you've spent money on stones, blades and home kits, you might've well just have visited a professional.

None of the professional treatments worked for me. The chiropodist tried acid, liquid nitrogen, laser treatment but all to no avail, and costing me a small fortune. However, I did get rid of the damn thing in the end with Garlic.
Crush a clove of Garlic and place a bit of it (roughly the same size as the wart) onto a strip of tape - I used fabric tape and placed it over the wart with some brown packing tape around it so the Garlic didn't go into my shoes etc. Each day I would clean the wart with alcohol, and replace with fresh Garlic and tape. During this time I didn't get any water on the wart (I put a latex glove over my foot when showering - very fetching!). After a week or so (I can't remember how long I kept this up for exactly as it was years ago), the wart lifted out, and I scraped away all the dead skin. Be warned though that this process will probably hurt... lots. I do remember that it was by far the most painful treatment that I had. It was worth it though as it didn't come back, and it cost next to nothing. I now also wear flip-flops in the gym's changing room!

Can do pretty much the same with banana skin.Crush a clove of Garlic and place a bit of it (roughly the same size as the wart) onto a strip of tape - I used fabric tape and placed it over the wart with some brown packing tape around it so the Garlic didn't go into my shoes etc. Each day I would clean the wart with alcohol, and replace with fresh Garlic and tape. Dry needling is becoming quite popular for these little buggers.
- Local into the ankle numbs sole of foot.
- Take a hypodermic needle and puncture the VP right through to the fascia about 100 odd times, until it's a bloody pulp.
- Dress appropriately.
Puncturing the VP right into the fascia kicks off an autoimmune response. People seem to be having very good results with this method.
If you're anywhere near Leeds I can arrange it for you if you like.
Oh and bear in mind. You only need to treat verruca if they are painful or start to spread to other areas or get bigger. Otherwise just leave it alone, won't kill you.
Also bear in mind, if you've got a big old nasty one and nothing is working make sure your GP does a full blood work up on you to rule out anything nasty.

Spent a fortune on the chemist freezing packs for a wart and a verruca. They were a complete waste of money. So have had over 6 weeks 3 lots of freezing by the nurse at my local doctor's. Wart nearly gone, verruca still hanging on in there so off to see the doctor next week as the nurse not now sure if it is a verruca.
NB. A wart is a verruca, and vice-versa. We needlessly use different words depending on the location, e.g. http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?con=276#q2
The over the counter freezing kits are not very powerful; didn't work for me. The salicylic acid gel stuff takes weeks but it does work (magic stuff, that aspirin). Try e.g. http://dermatology.about.com/cs/warts/a/warts.htm
Having tried both, I'd go see your doctor and get something more Medieval done to it.
