Is there anything on your mind?

Cut out caffiene/sugar.

Take a hot bath before bed.

Try reading before bed.

Have a look at http://www.pzizz.com/

I've downloaded it, but not had a chance to try it.

I hate having the window open, but the cooler you are the better chance of falling asleep (you drift off as you cool down).

Cut out booze - it makes your sleep restless (unless catatonic, then you have a hangover to endure).

Do some exercise - healthy body, healthy mind, tired out = sleep.

I find the gym in the evening is a guaranteed late night, cant sleep for hours afterwards, however, gym at 6:30am, I'm fast asleep by 10pm.

Yes. Lots. To much that will never be resolved to be solvable.

Caffeine already removed from diet, sugar quite low anyway.

I have been reading on t'internet before bed. Last night I was reading till 4am, I think I'll finish the internet soon and have to start something else...

Haven't tried a hot bath though!

wavey Long term transient insomniac here

I am on long term medication to control my insomnia, which every other method failed to fix the problem.

For short term, I would recommend nipping down the docs and asking for some Zopiclone. BE WARNED only use for short term only and it will normally kick your sleeping cycles back into whack.

Sometimes it turns out to be a self-forfilling prophecy (you think you won't sleep, therefore you worry about not sleeping, so you don't sleep) so in that case, zopiclone will break the cycle.

However seek professional advice first, it could be anything from stress to a serious underlying condition...

Switch to books instead of the internet, I find them more relaxing than a screen.

eta: you could also try melatonin, if you can find it. A South African woman I used to work with gave me some when I suffered from insomnia. Kicked my sleep habits back into touch after a couple of days of taking it.

I used to be similar. I used to keep thinking 'At what exact moment will I fall asleep?'

Don't do that. ^

I was trying to avoid pills if possible as I rattle already LOL, but I'll note it and have a natter with the doc next week. Stress is... high... but unavoidable and certainly not going to change, so need to work around it.

This is not a joke reply, although it will sound like it.

Have a tommy tank

The hormones released during a male orgasm make you feel tired. The hormones released in a woman make her wake up and chatty. So unless you want to be kept awake by 'er indoors chatting about what Janet from accounts is doing for her 47th birthday, keep it solo.

i had the same problem at uni for some time. first they gave me temazepam and they were about as useful as skittles because they dont like giving out high dosages.
went back and they gave me zopiclone which seemed to do the trick. gave me a crazy dry mouth though.
imagine chewing on carpet and huffing ether

If I open a printed book, it often wont get put down till it's finished. I used to read incessantly but haven't ever mastered the whole cutting off at an appropriate point hehe

First of all....

Cut the booze, the cigs and get a good (expensive) matteress...

I now sleep like a baby most nights (never enough sleep mind) after doing the above and moving to a ergoflex memory foam matteress.... Even when the OH has her reading light on.

http://www.ergoflex.co.uk/memory-foam-mattress.php...

I dont do much exercise at the moment and im shattered from the work due to the mental torture it gives me (challenging), but I used to be a proper insomniac... Zopiclone is your friend, but be warned if you take it and havent got ready for bed, you have 30mins, before you fall asleep WHEREEVER you maybe... have done that on the stairs before, it ends up being a competition who can stay awake the longest whilst on it and I always lose.
