I had surgery which requires Painkillers and Anti-Inflammatory but I haven't slept for about a Month now and despite the temptation to just down the Vodka and wrestle with the demons, I think it is a little early in my recovery to come out the other side with that mixture.

So can I take Nytol as well and actually wake up at some point?

Yes - Nightol isn't that good.

When I need to sleep on long haul flights in an economy seat I take 3 Nightol, 2 Kwells (travel sickness tablet) and a stiff drink. Out for the count in an hour.

500mg of Paracetamol with, presumably, 200mg of Ibuprofen and Nytol (Diphenhydramine) should see you fine.

You're only at half the typical dose for the NSAIDs and the latter is just an antihistamine. There is no record of drug interaction that I can see.

I'm not a doctor mind so if you do die don't be blaming me.

Yes you can't beat a bit of morphine for a socially acceptable addiction to opiates.

But it makes the pain stop and everything feel floaty-light hehe

Seriously though kids, drugs are bad m’kay

Even the ones that you can buy over the counter without a prescription.

I have quite a high tolerance for pain ;-)

And an extremely high ability to withstand pain killers numbing affect/ effect scratchchin. Doctors, Dentists etc routinely give me fat man doses to stop localised pain scenarios as I can still feel whatever they are doing.

Codeine however makes me sick almost instantly so I avoid that.

Don't do this. Cocodamol contains 500mg of paracetamol so you're doubling up.

Spoil-sport frown

You are right though, it’s not good for your kidneys.

Everyone please disregard everything I have said on this topic, I am not qualified in anyway to offer any advice regarding the use and quantity of non-prescription drugs. Always seek a professional’s opinion.

I thought that was quite obvious from the fact you've got kidneys and liver mixed up. biggrin

For your reference Paracetamol (acetamenophen)is a potent liver toxin. Particulaly when mixed with alcohol. Hence it's regular use in attempted suicides.

More cruelly though, rather than causing a quick death, it tends to result in a long drawn out death due to liver failure. At this point many typically rediscover how prescious life is. Far too late of course.

And yes you should be sure not to overdose on Paracetamol or drink it with alcohol for the reason above.

I typed liver first and then changed it to kidneys, then thought about it some more and considered Googling it but then my boss came and wanted to talk about “work” or some other nonsense.

You are of course correct in “liver damage” and indeed in everything else that you say. yes

It was very much a pub-quiz moment:

Initial answer “Liver”

Then thought about it and talked myself out of it but thinking “Kidneys”

If I’d thrown the question open to the table, we may have ended “always going for liver”…..

BTW – I did initially read the OP as “will I be able to wake up in time for work or sleep through my alarm…” but I now realise that they may have been asking whether they would awake, ever?!

Codeine on an empty stomach can make you hurl, badly.

Try it on a full stomach, might tolerate it a little better.

Two Syndols = nighty, night.

Though I wouldn't advise driving the morning after.
