Today i am sporting my first ever pair of spectacles.

I've made it 32 years, but now all the years of being a CAD monkey have caught up with me and i've got to wear glasses to work on the computer.

This, along with my continual back problems just means i'm officially getting on a bit. Shame, as the rest of me still feels about 21!

Already had "Alright Joe 90", and "Speccy Four Eyes" this morning from colleagues... hehe

How was the laser treatment? Is your sight as good as it was when it was first lasered?

I started wearing them a year ago.

I keep telling myself I look cool but deep down I know I'm only kidding myself & all those playground taunts that I used to dish out are coming back to haunt me.

no. Better.

It took about 3 months for my eyes to 'settle' properly.

They are now 16/16, but do get tired towards the end of the day and a bit dry.

I know there is the laser eye surgery thread but i was just wondering are you not worried about your eyes returning to their previous state? As they are only a muscle and will "stretch" back.

I've wore glasses since I was young till 15. Then wore contact lenses for the last 9 years.

I want laser eye surgery but being put off by having to keep having it done every 15 years or so?

If it happens, then so be it.

I doubt I'll have it done again. The discomfort is not something I want to go through again.

I would quite happily have scooped my own eyeballs out with a rusty spoon if it had stopped the pain on day 3.

hehe... thanks.. think i'll stick to the old lenses.

That's what worries me. Some people say no pain, whereas others say it kills. And I could do without paying 2K for pain..

The reason I went for laser is that my eyes didn't suit lenses and I was fed up with looking like a spacca-four-eyes.

I'm glad I did it now.

Although my eyes are very sensitive to dryness, dust/grit etc.

Strange - What surgery did you have - I was long sighted and had Lasik treatment, I was out having a curry that same night, and experienced Zero pain at all, Had perfect vision again (was previously a 7.2 precription)

This was when it first started in the UK about 9/10 years ago.

I do sometime have a bit of astigmatism in my left eye, So i should go back and get it done again.

PRK is a whole different kettle of fish, and I would avoid.

I had the one where they take the flap off the front of your eye and then put 'bandage lenses' in for a few days....

Pah - I've been wearing glasses since I was 11 - 22 years now....

Do you listen to Radio 2? Have you decided that Radio 2 is too noisy and have switched to Radio 4? That's when you're old.

I, using this analogy, am old.

I'd worn glasses for about 15yrs, then had laser surgery about 6yrs ago. I think it depends on the type of surgery they do as to the discomfort after. I had the flap and laser done, but didn't have the bandage lense after, onyl had a few hours of discomfort and could see pretty well a few hours later.

A friedn of the family was as blind as a bat then had laser surgery about 14yrs ago...he still has 20/20 vision today. I'd say well worth getting it done if you can afford it

It's conversations like this that I mean.. hehe The money isn't a problem really, it's just I don't want to keep going back for it to be done etc. I sound like your friend. Blind as a bat, I have some of the strongest contacts available hehe But I am quite comfortable using them.

Oh bogger it. I'll finally go for my second interview with the scary eye laser-ing people.

I wasn't aware that you would need to go back and get it done again. I thought once they'd changed the shape of you eye it was done for good...maybe i didn't listen enough.

I made it to 37 before needing glasses - then I noticed that by the time I could read the motorway signs it was too late to change lane

42 and still have perfect eyesight as tested recently. Seeing all my friends wearing specs now I'm starting to wonder if I am the bionic man but no one told me.
