At the risk of coming across all “Fat Fighters” I thought that I’d post this. I’ve already got the flame suit on, but I am hoping it might be of use to someone. Who knows.

Those of you who have met me know that I am not exactly thin. In fact, at 5 ft 9 in and 15 stone 8 lbs I was …………

As I got to 38 years old, I started to feel tired all the time, hot all the time, sweaty after a shower or bath and generally like a fat knacker. I’d avoid the stairs, and lay awake at night with my heart beating harder than it should. I started to worry that I’d end up like my Dad, on the receiving end of a heart attack in his 50’s – an event which had a profound and awful effect on my life and my Mum’s.

The final straw came one night four months ago when after a huge Italian meal, I lay awake unable to sleep feeling like a pregnant walrus.

Enough was enough. But what to do?

I decided to make a change. A permanent one, for the sake of my Mum (who I don’t want to have to bury me), Mrs Soov and our as yet unborn children.

Four months later, I had my weekly weigh in this morning. I have lost two stone. That’s TWENTY EIGHT POUNDS sportsfans. FIFTY SIX PACKETS OF LURPAK.

yikes FFS!

I feel better than I have since I was in my twenties. I have energy, I enjoy walking, I sleep well and my whole body seems to “run cooler” as if the thermostat has been adjusted down. At work, someone I haven’t seen for a while just told me that I look “amazing, like a lean athlete version of me”. As she’s a chick, this is a very good thing…….

So, if anyone gives a fk, here’s how I did it.

Breakfast

Banana.
Espresso.

[Weekends ] grilled bacon roll

Lunch

Brown bread sandwich (smoked salmon, roast chicken, roast beef, tuna no mayo)
Coke Zero/Fanta Zero/equivalent

Dinner

Normal evening meal, with less potato and rice.
Examples – Steak and big salad with low fat dressing, Tuna steak and salad, Vegetable curry with plain rice, Chilli with rice, Thai chicken curry with rice etc etc…

Here’s the good bit. And the reason I could stick with it.

Drinks

Switch from Stella to weaker bitter (try to stick to an average of two pints per night – don’t always manage it!!!!)
Switch from crisps to baked snacks (Twiglets, Snack a Jacks, Ryvita Minis) – one bag per day

Allowances

One HUGE TAKEAWAY CURRY PER WEEK woohoo as a treat at the weekend. Anything I want, as much as I want. All bets off.

So, to summarise, it is SO SO worth it. Make a change folks. You won’t regret it, and hopefully we might all live a little longer, giving more time for the good things in life.

That is all.

Have you added any exercise to that at all? When the weight starts dropping off with the (sensible) food, add some gentle walking or something like that, and be amazed at the results.

Good work though fella.

Fair play to you and, whilst I think you could use a bit more (good stuff) for breakfast, you're diet isn't too bad.

FWIW, my OH lost over 4 stone recently and still had a chinese takeaway every Friday with me.

It's just common sense - eat good stuff most of the time and something not so good once a week won't kill you. thumbup

Nice one chap thumbup

I lost 3 stone last year, although not by choice but through stress, and am back down to a manageable and more healthy weight (13.5-14 stone - 6 foot 4) - keep up the good work old bean smile

Good stuff, I've been on something similar.

I've lost 21 pounds in 3 months by cutting out... Beer, Crisps, Biscuits, Butter (flora light now), and replacing all my meals with human sized-leaner versions of the same. Wholemeal pasta, wholemeal rice, wholemeal bread.

I feel great for it, I want to lose another 2 stone, then I'll be at my target weight.

Fair play to you, fella.

Mrs Schmal has lost two stone over the couple of months as well & she looks absolutely fantiastic for it. I, on the other hand, remain at my normal 5'11" & 14st 11 frown

You should have seen me when I was in my early 20's.

10.5 stones was not unheard of for me. But then I was riding my bike everywhere.

It never seems like you're carrying that much extra until you wake up one morning and realise you have to shift it.

My 'wake up' was being able to easily pin two mates to the floor using my weight whilst 'having a bit of play-scrap' a few years back, and I realised that my third chin needed to go...

My wake up is when I find it hard to tie my shoes hehe

I'm trying to get back down to a solid 14 stone at 6', if I do that I'll be well happy :Pant:

Like I said, I don't always manage it.

Exercise has increased a little, but I want to get down to 13 stone before I start to exert myself really. Wanna go easy on the old ticker!!

You can't use common sense on a diet! Surely the advice to just eat less is useless to fat knackers who blame water retention and their slow metabolism for their size? wink

Good work anyway. I know exactly what you mean about the thermostat. Since I moved house in August my trousers are starting to fall down so obviously my similar regime is working, and if I stick to being sensible, it sounds like the results will continue to accrue.

This is the BEST thing about it. It's like I am not walking round with a duvet wrapped round me. I am also a much healthier colour.

Well done Soovy, I am and have been a lardy bd for quite a few years now (see user name) but I go home on thursday ( I am working 28/28 rotation in Baku)and have decided to lose weight, I have signed up to a diet plan and am determined to stick with it.
Could be difficult when I come back here in a month as you cannot always get the foods you are used to and I have to do time offshore, but by the start of the next hillclimb season I plan to be 3stone lighter.

Your success gives me added encouragement. thumbup

You don't need to sign up for anything. Save your money mate.

Less fuel in = weight loss. Simple.

Good work. People come up with all these crazy ideas about how to lose weight but the answer is generally very simple - eat less and exercise more.

My wife (who claims to knows about such things) says this might be because you're developing more muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat.
