Ouch...

Just cut a chunk off the end of my thumb, nothing major, just a chuck of flesh about the size of a 5p coin.

Finally managed to get it wrapped up and stem the flow of claret.

How often should I be changing the dressing? I can see it being a bit of a stinger for a couple of days.

Ta!

haha, I dont think the missus and son would appreciate their meatballs with a dressing of fresh Dave blood! smile

Honest, it was pissing the red stuff everywhere, the missus was very helpful, she screamed and ran away.

ETA I've got out of cooking dinner now, yay.

I would change the dressing every 24hrs, unless you can see that blood has seeped through. hth

P.S Bit of a drastic way to get out of cooking don't you think. You'll have to think of better ways than that before you loose a hand!!

I wouldn't worry, you've probably contracted bad aids.

You'll be dead within a day. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

No, not the loctite / over the counter stuff anyway. Yes it was invented for wound closure, but it's not the same these days, it's very rarely used and when it is it's medical grade stuff. It wouldn't be used for that type of wound anyway. It's pretty nasty stuff.

Just keep it clean, redress is whenever you think it's neccessary, if it looks manky or blood soaked change it.

that's the dressing you're after, ignore the ointment. Wouldn't do any harm to use a bit of savlon, might sting a bit. Just let it get air whenever possible, and keep it clean (savlon wound wash is great for that sort of thing)smile

gaffer tape is great stuff, unless you're hairy as you won't be for long hehe

Superglue isn't terrible stuff really, it's just not especially nice and some people can have a reaction to it. It can also cause inflamation. I've used it before on little nicks, but there's better stuff out there.

I did similar yesterday. Not cooking though.

Depends if changing the dressing will tear open the wound. Best to change it as little as possible. If it gets wet or dirty then change it, otherwise leave it alone.

i did that when I was younger - was more of a nice slice from the edge rather than the tip though.

Stuck it back on, wrapped it in a dressing and luckily my body re-connected with it. But boy was I careful with it for a while! I'd go and see a nurse tomorrow personally because a tip is much more vulnerable.

That's awesome! Just done it, a million times better than the random melonin (sp) and tape contraption I had stuck on the end of my finger!

I can tell everyone I've got a fingertip avulsion too! sounds serious! smile

Thanks!
