Keeping weight?
Discussion
My first thread in here so go easy on me.
Approx 7 months ago i weighed just short of 11stone, I was in pretty good shape physically and mentally, worked out 3-4 times a week, ate well and generally did everything i should. Then towards the back end of march i was involved in a fairly low speed RTA as a passenger, the basic circumstances were as we approached a roundabout the driver commented on the tttish driving in the car behind, i turned around to look, and as i was twisted the impact (10-15mph) happened.
I attended a hospital the following day who advised me i had whiplash, and to keep exercising it and take painkillers ect, so not bad there. Its not been 6 months and when attempting to lift anything heavy (even a full kettle!) with my right arm i am getting a shooting sensation in my arm, I'm also currently having physio, this week i was told i have a twisted vertabrae in my neck, so even more time away from the gym.
I have tried maintaining my diet the best i can in this time while not been able to use the gym or exercise, but i have shrunk down to 9 stone 4. This has also effected my mental state, I'm not happy in myself, and i'm finding it harder and harder to keep up with a decent diet while im seeing no gains.
Sorry for the length of the post, but what i'm wanting to know is: Without been able to hit the gym how can i put on weight and keep it on? Or how can i be a bit happier with who i am while i'm in my semi crippled state.
Thanks.

9 stone 4! what height are you?
6foot, or there-abouts Diet roughly same, but obviously without training my portions are smaller, i just cant fit the food in at the moment. I'm not happy at the moment though, and every other aspect of my life is almost ideal and progressing well. So i'm putting it down to my weight loss and stuff.

holy st, 6 foot and 9 stone 4! Youre not eating anywhere near enough! get some steaks down you! Thats less than 60 kilos!
The guys at my judo club who fight at under 66kgs are usually about 5'5'' and thats after theyve done a bit of dieting to make weight in the first place. If I couldnt go to the gym losing weight would be the least of my worries!
Sure youve not got a tapeworm?!

Breakfast flatcake, normally eat 3/4's
Couple of apples/fruit
Pasta and tuna or 2 chicken breasts
Normally fish and chips/pizza whatever for tea
And general snacking through the day too, bread or crisps.
Eat late, go to bed early. Eat loads of white bread. Don't move. Snack between meals. Eat quickly. Eat lots of chocolate and coke. Drink beer or wine every night. Skip breakfast and lunch. You'll be asking us how to lose weight in no time.

Rarely drink alcohol, when i do its normally Vodka and coke or redbull. Might drink 1 can of coke a day.
I have been working night recently too, apparently this may be contributing?
working nights screws you up, it isnt good for you at all and stops you getting vitamin D from the big yellow ball in the sky. Do you eat your main meal just before you go to bed? Eating late then going to bed means your body converts in into fat as you dont use it as energy when youre sleeping. I have been working night recently too, apparently this may be contributing?
That said I doubt you want to go from being skinny to being a fatty so if you were eating more I guess youd want to turn it into muscle. Have you been to see a sports physio? They have all sorts of ways of exercising around injuries as well as ways of fixing them.

I'm seeing a sports physio at the moment, my neck is quite bad so unable to do even the simplest of exercises, still trying to correct the vertabrae, which is very painful. I do alot of stretches, push ups, and as many stomach crunches as i can manage before my back/neck hurt. I also do alot of walking/cycling, which probably burns alot of off me before it even settles.
Ideal would have been keep a high protein, decent fat intake, lowish carbs and you would have slowed down the loss greatly. It still would have happened, just slower.
To be honest, i know its not what you want to hear, but i`d get everything sorted with your back/neck first, working around an injury isnt great, but when its your back it really isnt worth making things worse.
You could increase your calories, fat and protein, and carry on with what limited movements you can do, but as i say, you could slow your healing process, and find in 6-12months youve got to take time off training again.

Let me summarise, Mr Riddler. You're wondering how the hell you're losing weight yet you eat less and still do a lot of walking and cycling? Are you just seeking attention?
