I'm probably going to regret posting this but... I've been dieting for a while now, and I needed to (I know!). Problem is, fat is disappearing but remaining layers are moving. Where it was all contained under my skin before, it is now sagging but my skin is not shrinking! I caught sight of the result in a mirror yesterday and, to be honest, it looked better with the full weight! If it carries on like this the result is going to be gross!! frown
So. . . . . How can I get my skin to shrink back down and contain my 'innards' in a better looking fashion? this could have serious effects on my psyche!

Were you really fat before?

Perhaps when people have lost loads of weight they end up needing surgery to remove excess skin as the skin has been unable to 'shrink' to the body's new shape.

Have you been doing any toning exercises whilst losing weight? This will help to a degree, but if the skin has been seriously stretched, or repeatedly stretched by yo yo dieting, then it may sag unfortunately.

It is worth investing time in things like massage, exfoliating properly to get the skin in best condition. I know it's not exactly manly but giving your skin a good rub with a decent skin lotion may also help as it gets the circulation moving.

Was classed within the obese range, but nowhere near the 'clinically obese' range. Now just into the 'overweight' range and heading smaller!

I spoke to a friend about it this morning and she offered to keep slapping my arse for me to tighten it up .
I might see if that helps! whistle

Depending on your age, genetics and how much your skin had to stretch when you were overweight, there may be nothing you can do about saggy skin unless you consider plastic surgery. Lots of toning excercises will tighten the muscles *under* the skin, but the skin will still be saggy. I have a fair bit of saggy skin after losing 10 stone, but there is no way I would consider it more unsightly saggy than it was full of fat.

And then there are the health/quality of life benefits.

Rapid weight loss always results in this, same as rapid gain causes stretch marks, all I can suggest is Vitamins C & E and staying hydrated. Buffing your skin whilst showering to increase blood flow may help the overall tone of your skin and exercise will also help.

recall seeing a photo of some yank who was 50 stone and dropped to 20 stone, had so much skin that he looked like a freak and had to have it surgically removed, as his stomach areas where hanging below his knees - just the skin area smile

Yep. That is why (and for health reasons) rapid weight loss is not recommended. You didn't put it on quickly, so why should it come off quickly.

Well when I lost 7 stones over a year, I was quite lucky, as most stuff shrunk with me hehe

Well apart from the tits...but I blame the breast feeding for that, and my tummy....and blame the C-section for that

Yes yes I know, I am really the one to blame

Losing lots of weight very quickly often has this unwanted side-effect.

I recall reading somewhere that skin has a memory of sorts, and a sudden loss of weight simply means that you are more than likely to put the weight back on. Hence the skin remains loose or something.

How true this is? I have no idea.

Preagnant women have this problem too. Give it time though, excercise and do what is suggested above, and you should see an improvement without having to resort to surgery. Be prepared for the long haul though.

This usualy ahppens when someone loses a LOT of weight. Mainly caused because our bodies can make an infinite amount of fat cells (to guard against starvation etc) when we are at our largest these cells are all full of fat, then when you start losing the weight we 'burn' off this excess stored body fat and the fat cells get smaller. BUT and this is the st part, these cells never disappear, instead they reamin under our skin, ready to be filled again...hence the saggy skin...and also one of the reasons why we can gain any excess weight so rapidly......

They're renowned for causing anal leakage.
