Applied some 'earex' last night trying to shift some stubborn earwax (or so I thought)

But the bit when you wash the stuff out, and regain full hearing was substituted with almost complete deafness in my only 'good ear'

Doctor this morning took a look and reported a damaged ear drum,

A weeks course of AB's at the end of which he wants to see me again if all is not normal.

Anyone else have same experience, and how long did they take to heal.

Cheers

I think he probably said 'damaged'.

Sorry.

Should repair itself nicely within a few days. Shouldn't cause any lasting damage although regular perforation can cause scaring.

Next risk is middle-ear infection hence the Antibiotics. Keep it dry/clean.

Olive oil is a perfectly effective ear wax softener, Best to gently sluice your ears out with warm water from the shower regularly. Practice nurse will syringe excess wax out safely particularly as she has an otoscope to see what's going on in there first.

All the best for a speedy recovery agric.

Cheers, gonna' be a drag missing work.
I'm thinking a week for starters, with the option of infection complications carrying me safely into next month.

Sadly I've been hearing in 'mono' for about five years.
The initial shock of near total deafness was an unpleasent surprise last night.

Still hopefully I can avoid any further DIY injury lilke the crushed thumbnail this afternoon (dry stone walling)

I damaged mine in 1985 in a waterskiing accident, I also ruptured my inner ear. I spent 8 days in hospital, not allowed to stand up, or sit up. Then I had to learn to walk again, it took me a few hours.

I lost the hearing in the other ear following a stroke,
I was hospitalized a month, and I too had the walking thing to learn again.
Apparently not all the balance mechanism I'd previously thought was aural is.
Something to do lower legs and ankles (don't know just how it all works) but evidently something prevents me falling over fortunately!

Is that them?

Collection of small bones in some sort of fluid/suspension
Detecting balance.

They did briefly explain it, but TBH my mind was occupied on the whole walking & learning to write again thing, anyway.
Thanks everyone, PH has. Been a great place for shared experiences for a very long time now (one of its few remaining benefits sadly)

Do as the Dr says and keep it totally dry and clean.
About 22 years ago I also perforated my eardrum (can't remember how now)and it got infected in my middle ear.
I had an infection of the mastoid cavity (do a Google search but make sure you've not eaten!) following that and so far I've had 7 operations.
The last one being last Monday and the side of my head is stitched from sideburn all the way around my ear to my ear lobe and it hurts like fking hell! headache

Look after your lugs!

Ouch!
on the positive side of course deafness can be an invaluable tool relationship-wise.

My Wife is enthralled by 'Grease the high school musical' just now.
where previously a perfect storm would have been brewing just above the TV,
all is plain sailing,
as I not only have my back to this adolescent stress-fest,

I cant even hear it
