Other half has just busted her ankle, sounds quite bad, fractured bone and busted the socket (if there is one) Docs have said they've never seen a break like it in someone as young.

Anyone here busted theirs and got any idea on what I'm to expect over the next few weeks/months?

Recovery time?
Pain levels during and after healing?
Movement levels after healing?

cheers!

Not going to say on here as it'll only open the thread up to a bunch of moaners and I'd rather it didn't clutter the thread. laugh

I broke my right ankle in 1994. It didn't hurt much at the time, but it certainly hurt a lot over the next few weeks. I was off work for 10 weeks, I seem to recall, and only went back because I was bored stless sitting around the house all day. I had a mass of pins and a plate put in, but never got around to having them removed, not that I notice now anyway.

The annoying lack of mobility and having to use crutches were the worst things really.

I have only cracked my ankle not fully broke it in the past, the initial pain of it happening was the worst, and it just ached mainly after that due to the swealling.

What to expect? Well she will be wanting you to wait on hand and foot no doubt!

Have only done my ankle ligaments when out running, never broken a bone. My god did it hurt. Getting home was also fun. not.

Amusingly she thinks she'll be back at work within a week. We have an automatic car and she reckons she can just drive that.

I'm not sure the docs will be having any of it though.

I've been reading horror stories of off work for months, although I guess this is very dependant on the break and the type of work you do. Hardly going to see a roofer shining up a roof with his ankle in plaster.

If she works from home, yes.

The reality is, for the first couple of weeks, any knocks or bumps to the injured leg leaves you feeling giddy with pain. Better to stay in bed and avoid the hassle.

Having had ankle problems for years, including sprains, dislocations, ligament damage and vaious other ailments.

A break is very serious and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Tell your OH to take it easy.

I fractured the bottom of my tibia (i think) which is near my ankle apparently. I was only out of plaster in August - 7 weeks in total. First two weeks I was told to do absolutely nothing bar keep my foot elevated.

I was walking without the crutches 1 week after getting the cast off but wasn't able to go far. I'm now out of the cast 5 weeks and walk no problem but still get sore from time to time. Foot is still swollen and will be swollen for about another 2 months apparently.

I've been very lucky although I did everything to doctor told me to do. I didn't have to take pain killers during the day, just one a night so that I could sleep.

physiotherapy has been going really well, no running yet - probably in another month I think but again the exercises are important to getting you back to 100%

Good luck!
