Anybody else know anything about this Therapy ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOfyZHBcDsY

My mum has had chronic and constant back pain for ages now and over the last few years it's got worse, to the point she can hardly walk at times through the pain. Often when I go to see her she spends most of the time laying on the sofa so she can be out of pain.

Every time I go to see her she gets more and more hunched up and I can see she isn't far away from spending the rest of her life in a wheel chair.

She's been in and out of hospital prodded here and there and seen various top specialists in their field, but so far nothing has worked.

I get a phone call today and she has had 2 sessions with a person doing the Bowen Technique. Apparently the pain has relieved 10 fold and my brother says she was actually standing up straight. I must admit it was a long time ago since I've seen her do that.

Anybody else have any knowledge of this technique and why isn't it on the NHS ?

Expect people to reply with "It's a load of bks and is just a placebo blah blah blah". Glad it worked for her. Beats shovelling pills down your neck and getting an ulcer.

I've been treated with the Bowen technique and it fixed a longterm back problem with just one session. The way it was explained to me was rather than push things into place, they relieve the tension so that things slip back into place naturally. (Although that sentence has many uses).

Thing is she had no expectations from it at all and only recently heard about it through a relative who put her in touch with somebody. When she come out of the first session she felt it was more like a relaxing massage more than anything else and didn't think much of it.

She's not out of the woods yet by a long shot and not counting any chickens yet, but at least she sounded happier today which is the main thing. biggrin

The husband of a friend of mine is a Bowen practitioner. If it works for you (or your mum) then great. Like all things it isn't a panacea for everyone's problems.

I guess you would, too, if you were suffering from chronic back pain for years and someone came along and made it go away with just a few pushes!

He would certainly be my god if he could make my back pain disappear. Too many Chiroprators, Osteopaths and physio therapists have tried and failed. I don't even bother with pills anymore.

I almost don't want to try Bowen for fear that it may fail me also and I find I have no hope left. smile

I suffered from a chronic neck muscle pain for several years, compounded by my work.

I found a radical, revolutionary and frankly unorthodox method of treatment.

E-X-E-R-C-I-S-E.

An amazing new treatment which can be used to cure 99% of all aches and pains. Strangely enough.

Actually, now you say that, it's worth trying Tai Chi. Very gentle, slow moving, so easy to do for those with limited mobility.

Give it a go, it may not work for you but you will never know. I'm the biggest skeptic going, I rib my BIL about it all the time, but the testimonies from his clients is very impressive and these are not the type of people to buy into mumbo jumbo, they just had no luck with regular treatments and gave him a go as a last resort.

Well spoke to me ma again tonight and she has had her third treatment today. Apparently her pelvis is out of line or something so are they are trying to sort that out. I think part of the problem has something to do with a number of disc being removed years ago IIRC.

They think she'll always have some sort of pain due to the underlying problems but at least it's bearable so she says, although the woman doing the treatment says that the effects never fail to amaze her.

She is now standing upright and able to do a bit of gardening. TBH until I see her I can't believe it.
