Blood test - bruising
Discussion
I gave blood for the first time yesterday. Think i could have entered the guiness world records for speed, only took 2-3 minutes and only the tiniest little pin prick type mark lef today and no pain at all. Guess everybody is different and reactions will be very varied, luck of the draw i suppose!
I think it depends on who is taking the blood !!
The new house officers going on the wards this week may well be inflicting more than a few bruises !!
It really depends on where you had the blood taken from, sometimes a small haematoma can cause slight compression on the median nerve (gives sensation to the thumb, index, middle and half of the ring finger, amongst other things) which could account for the numbness/pins & needles.
If the median nerve was spiked with the needle at the time of venepuncture believe me you would have known about it.
It should settle, if no better in a week or so then pop to the GP.

Give them a break, they've got 8hrs less a week to do their butchery.
When I joined the NHS I got given a bible of acronyms...
"PRHO - A doctor fresh out of uni, if one of them sees you on their own there's either nothing wrong with you or you're going to die. If you get a gaggle of them with a consultant then you've got something rare."
