I think one of my teeth is a bit loose. There's a slight feeling of pressure in that part of my gum and, well, I can taste blood. It obviously needs to be looked at, but I haven't registered with a dentist since moving to the area and I'm heading on holiday in two days - any advice? Am I likely to get it seen and treated in one go if I cold call on the dentist tomorrow?

I had to get out-of-hours treatment and wasn't registered - I got a telephone number from NHS direct and they pointed me toward a NHS clinic in the region.

Wait until you reach your holiday destination, then blame some local delicacy on your needing emergency dental work out there and charge it to your travel insurance.

Nice idea, but I'm not sure North Yorkshire has much in the way of tooth-breaking delicacies.

Hmm, found one nearby who's apparently renowned for treating nervous patients (which I definitely am) but he's gone on holiday. Damn it! I'm not in any pain, so might just spend this evening gargling Corsodyl and hope for the best.
