Units of alcohol per week.......recommended levels!
Discussion
Christ. just been reading a leaflet handout about how many units of booze is recommended per week for a male. Check this.
'Sensible': Less than 10 units per week. Yeah right!
'Maximum' : 21 units per week. Maybe on a quiet night.
'DANGER!' : 35 units per week. Best avoid Dirty Dicks in the future as I appear to be in danger.
Jesus wept. It even goes on to say that more than 8 units in one 'session' constitutes 'high risk'.
That's only about 3-4 large glasses of wine and I am apparently heading for the Pearly gates.
What a crock of plop!
Yet another example of us being fed information in an attempt to scare us and keep us in order.

Did you read about that 18.2% beer they released recently http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1327...
Anyway they said if a woman was to drink one bottle she would technically be binge drinking as it contains six units of alcohol.
I try to stick to 10 units

so in 3 days I did 4 week's worth of units?
pfft!
Mate, we jointly did about 4 weeks worth of allowance BEFORE we went to the pub on Thursday!pfft!
I'm not trying to sound big or clever or condone binge drinking, but surely this 'sensible' limit of 10 units per week is ridiculous?
They are trying to make out that you have a problem if you have more than a sniff of the barmaids apron, which is clearly wrong.
My birthday was last friday and since then i've had about 70 odd units since then and I've not drunk a drop today.
Might not bother going home tonight as I clearly won't make it.
Some stuff from a mental health clap trap site
"There is some evidence associating light drinking (less than 7 units a week) with improved physical, emotional and mental health in some adults."
and
"Evidence shows that people who consume high amounts of alcohol are vulnerable to higher levels of mental ill health." blah blah blah
And from the Goverment ( who have a subsidised gin palace in the Palace Of Westminster)
The Government has suggested “Sensible Drinking” limits as three to four units a day for men and two to three units a day for women. The tables below explains what a 'unit' of alcohol actually is:
Beer, lager and cider
A pint of beer / ordinary strength ale
(e.g. John Smith's, Boddingtons, Guinness) 2.3 units
A pint of ordinary (4%) strength lager
(e.g. Carling Black Label, Fosters) 2.3 units
A pint of strong lager
(e.g. Stella Artois, Kronenbourg 1664) 3 units
A 440ml can of strong lager (e.g. Stella Artois, Carlsberg Export, Grolsch) 2.2 units
A pint of ordinary strength cider
(e.g. Dry Blackthorn, Strongbow) 3 units
Wine
A standard 175ml glass of red or white wine around 2 units
A large 250ml glass of red or white wine around 3 units
Spirits and alcopops
A small (25ml) measure of spirits 1 unit
A large (35ml) measure of spirits 1.4 units
A double measure of spirits 2 units
A 275ml bottled alcopop (e.g. Smirnoff Ice, Bacardi Breezer, WKD, Reef); 1.5 units

While I enjoy a tipple myself, I get tired of people saying they don't drink too much when they obviously do. Then they try make it sound clever.
If you're sucking down more than 30 units a week then you can't be serious when saying its fine. Your body will complain sooner or later.
Sorry but that is a whole crock of st. I really really did used to polish off 30+ units every friday night, maybe half again on a saturday but not touch another drink for the rest of the week. it isnt hard to do and personally dont think its dangerous at all, half a bottle of wine is easilly manageable per day then a good drink at the weekend, which will be well over the RDA without any ill effects. If you're sucking down more than 30 units a week then you can't be serious when saying its fine. This has also been backed up by a doctor as someone close to me has gone from 5 bottles of wine per day to one. Doctor said that this is fine.

This kind of information / advice is total BS..
...for a start it never takes into account all those years when had 'no units of alcohol per week'
But surely the effects arent spread over all those years before you were 14 and didnt drink anything, the impact will depend how much you consume over a short period....for a start it never takes into account all those years when had 'no units of alcohol per week'
You cant drink 1000 units of alcohol in a day and expect to be okay because you havent drunk for 10 years prior to that for example, that's like cooking a chicken in a quatter of the time by increasing the heat by 4 and expecting it not to burn (for want of a completely useless comparison).
