Hi all,

I don't usually frequent this forum - partly because I've been training/keeping fit/matining fitness for many years (25 or so) so am pretty happy with what I do, and partly because I don't have time to read another forum in addition to all the car related stuff! yikes

However, the time has come (as the Walrus said) to talk of running things.....

It's been over 20 years since I ran reasonable distances, and SWMBO and I are going to do a half marathon in September so we're getting the distance runs in.

My question is how many long runs/what distance should we be doing a week? When I were a lad (in my 50th year now) recovery times, muscle repair and all that good stuff just happened over night. Sadly it's an accepted fact that as you get older these times get longer....

We're up to about 9 miles at the moment, but I'm wondering how many times na week we should be putting that distance in, and what recovery time is reccommended in between. I know I need to get out and do some short sharp runs, maybe some intervals - although convincing the wife of that is NOT easy!

Any general suggestions gratefully received.

If you google 'half marathon training' there are lots of hits for articles in running magazines. Not the same as personal experience, but a start.
