I've got something wrong with my knee.

It hurts lots to bend around and under the knee cap.

Its not swollen.

I can't see a doctor being able to do much for it and i don't want to pay to go and see a physio - so i can i just turn up at A&E?

Go to your GP and they'll refer you to a physio/specialist on the NHS.

Yep, Minor Injuries Clinic for sure - that's where I went when a dog bit me and then two weeks later I fell off my bike and fractured my elbow (the two were not related biggrin). It's been a strange month hehe

If it's when you're going up stairs or doing a squatting motion it might be your meniscal. I had something similar a while ago and went to the hospital as i was due to go on holiday a couple of days after. Didn't want to make it worse if I was supposed to be resting up! As above, you should get to see a physio who'll be able to advise.

How long has it been sore?..Hopefully you may just have twisted it, and it will get better by itself.

If it persists you may have damaged the cartlidge between the bone, usually easily cured by a 20 minute minor op...I had this done five years ago, never had any more trouble since.

I had an MRI scan prior to the operation which showed up the damage.

Google Arthroscopy..........

You need the hurty leg dept.

They're currently doing clinical trials on a very promising magic kiss that makes it all better.

It started initially last sunday during a hike. I didn't twist it, fall over or do anything that i hadn't been doing for the previous 8 miles. It just started to hurt and got gradually worse and worse as I went on. Going down hill was bad, going up hill and flat wasn't so bad.

Woke up Monday morning after hardly being able to move sunday evening and it was more or less fine, a couple of twinges but nothing more.

Couple of miles walk today and its started hurting again.

Its not a muscle strain type of pain, and as i say no swelling.

Although it's true that the "magic kiss" methodology has shown some very positive results, tests have shown that it works best in conjunction with the "There there, who's Mummy's brave little soldier?" technique.

That, and the liberal application of Germolene.

I had exacly the same thing a while back. Did nothing to it and it hurt like hell.
I found putting a hot water bottle on it at bedtime worked wonders. Gradually got better over a week or too. I think it was a dry knee cap from what I found on the net.
I'm always reluctant to go to Dr's. But would have gone eventually if this had failed.
Mine felt like my Knee cap was moving around too much and not moving freely, but is fine now. Really odd.

Good luck smile

A+E is for emergencies, it's best to book an appointment with a doctor, they will then refer you to physio, A+E won't be able to do anything about it either and will just refer you to your GP for them to get you a physio appointment, or a cat scan booked.

Sound like a meniscus problems, you can use RICE to try and make it feel better. Realistically if you have a tear it will need either repairing or removing or replacing. You need to get a referal to an orthopedic surgeon via your GP or go see a physio who specialises in knees first.

Go see this bloke, he is apparently quite handy!

Just back from the "minor injury unit"

they were very good - i was seen inside ten minutes.

They say it is miniscus damage. Don't know if its torn or just damaged / inflamed(sp?)

Just got to rest it now - meant to be doing the yorkshire three peaks next saturday so fingers crossed its a bit better by then.

Dr House in the....house! Anyone else need diagnosed?

Hate to say mate, but if it was anything like as bad as mine it can take a loooooong time (in my case about 6 weeks!) to get better. Best of luck!
