Howdy,

I train in Taekwondo, and this involves being barefoot, with lost of twisitng and weight being put through my big toes, as a result of this i'm prone to getting blisters which invariably tear during training; so far this hasn't been too bad, but last night i took of probably 80% of the top layer of skin on my right big toe, and needless to say it fracking hurts!

So my question is, is thereanything i can do to stop these blisters occuring (wearing trainers is not an option), the only thing i can think of is to strap up my toe somehow but that seems a little daft too. Any advice greatfully received.

Wipe the area regularly with surgical spirit, it roughens the skin up.

Tape you big toe to the one next to it with masking/first aid(bandage) tape. Should stop you taking all the skin off and lessen the chances of breaking your toe if you catch a knee or elbow.

As yuck as it sounds, try urinating on you feet or rubbing your urine on them, it hardens the skin.

At the karate club I go to the people who suffer particularly with this just tend to use plasters or tape

I used to get this a lot doing TKD (trained 4 times per week)- I found that with time a regular training your feet toughen and it doesn't happen anymore, or if does, and a layer of skin shears off there's already hard skin underneath-..

On occasions it was pretty sore however

Didn't get so much on my big toe, mainly round the ball of my foot for me..

I never tried any of the 'skin toughing' tricks- however various people claim these work and may help?

Can not use a pair of sparring/training shoes? (I seem to recall they were really light, almost plimsol like trainers made by some korean company)- I seem to recall these worked ok?
