My thigh muscles freeze up if i push my muscles too hard.

I have experienced it on a hard hike, also bike ride and at the gym yesterday.

The legs freeze and i am unable to move them and i become stuck in that position for 1-2 minutes and it takes time to move out of that position.

I am unfit but did not think it should be this bad... i been gymming for the past 3 weeks... experienced it yesterday for the first time at the gym.

Sounds like a cramp, do you think this is what it could be?

i was thinking a cramp.

I dont normally experience cramps, i suppose i have not trained for a good 3-4 years though.

Its just i can't move my thigh and its extremely painful and i cant move for a few minutes.

Do cramps happen when you're unfit?

(it's prob a bad bad cramp... lol)

I take it we're not talking about joint pain, just in the muscles yes?

If so, are you doing all the usual stretching, warm-up etc? How long are you going for? Are you drinking enough as you go to replace fluids, salt, etc?

Are you sweating buckets? if so could be lack of salt and replenishing with just water might not do.

My old fella has this problem when he goes hill walking and now takes salt tablets which can prevent cramping.

well with the biking.. i was about a 18 mile ride.. first ride of the year.

the 6 hour hike was up a mountain and occured when we finished. simply could not move them.

the cramp yesterday was after a 10 minute faster then normal run, most of it up hill (never done that up hill before).. then a 5 minute fast row, then a 10 minute cross-trainer session on a high level. I could feel the burn on the thights.

Warm up was prob a 2 minute fast walk.

how do i replace salt? i drink about 1.5ltrs a day.. prob 1 ltr on a bad day.

I have started back at the gym after an eight week absence due to an accident and my freezing in legs and lower back was due to not stretching and warming up correctly. Perhaps just the fast walking might not be enough.
