Just thought I'd add at the beginning of this that I live in Austria and finding an English speaking doctor at this time of night is very hard.

I know this is probably in the wrong place and I'm probably panicking for nothing but I had my wisdom tooth extracted and after treatment for a supposed "dry socket", i've gone to brush my teeth before going to bed, only to see there's a great big ruddy hole and my jaw bone is visible.

I started a previous thread here but I'd like to contact an English speaking doctor as I'm in Austria and I need to know exactly what's going on.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I have a dull pain on the right side where the hole is right down to my front teeth and I'm not going to lie when I say I'm mildly scared about what complications this could bring. After all, it can't be good to see my jaw bone.

There also a bad taste in my mouth and bad smelling breath.

Here's a photo of the affected area:

Please could somebody contact me asap either on the forum, or IM me. If you give me a number, I'm happy to call back from Austria. (I also know it's late but I'm really worried and I want to put my mind at rest).

Thanks.

Can't help but I sympathise. I had a gum abscess with no immediate access to a dentist and was advised to use hot salty water as a mouthwash every few hours. Seemed to do the trick. Unless you've got anything like Oraldene to hand?

Would it be possible to find a helpful Austrian to translate for you?

Asking the internet is only for when you want to be diagnosed with Swine Aids.

Every time I call the Austrian equivalent of NHS direct, I get through to somebody who doesn't speak any English whatsoever. I do speak German but I don't have to skills to talk about a hole in my gum and I need to know in detail what the doctor is saying to me.

I also tried to call NHS direct and even though I still pay my NI contributions, I'm not entitled to use the service unless I'm on British soil. Unbelievable!!!!

Seriously though. If there is a qualified doctor or dentist on here who wouldn't mind me calling or just chatting on skype or email about the problem, I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks.

From a non professional point of view, I would take some painkillers, not worry too much and go to sleep and try to sort out a dentist appointment tomorrow. A friend busted most of his body on the ski slopes of Austria and had fantasic treament by the hospitals there. I don't see any reason why the dentists should be any different but superb.

I agree. Austrian doctors are excellent, but my dentist is a butcher and leaving my mouth in such an exposed condition cannot be good for you. I'm just very wary of infection spreading through my jaw where it can cause damage to my teeth.

A bit mellow-dramatic perhaps but my teeth are in perfect condition and I'm very proud of that, and I don't want to damage them in any way.

Sure its not a wisdom tooth you can see? Would have though jawbone was whiter.

Go to sleep and get it sorted in the morning.

scratchchin Is it just me or does anyone else think that there is something weird about a guy that's in Austria, posting on the PH lounge, requesting urgent medical assistance?

And they say: "Only in America" hehe

How do they know where you are? Call them on your mobile and tell them you are in the UK.

Rinse with salty warm water evry few hours. Rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide if available (usually everywhere and very cheap in drug srores, etc.) You will be fine. See a dentist when you can. If you rinse to keep infection away, there is nothing else bad that can happen overnight....get some rest.

Wash it with salty water as mentioned. Go to sleep and deal with it tomorrow. You're not going help it missing sleep. Mouths are pretty resilient. I could get a recommendation for a good dentist in Vienna tomorrow if you like.

I can't help but feel you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Just suck a soluable aspirin and go to bed then see a quack in the morning, you big hypochodriac!

FWIW I would have thought many Austrian docs have at least a smattering of English?

Problem solved.....it's official....my old dentist is a brutal bh!

Went to a new dentist this morning and they were a million times better. He put some paste in the hole (assuming it's what driller mentioned to me), and cleaned everything up with next to no pain.

My mouth feels a little sore but much better than before.

Amazing the difference another dentist does.

To be honest, I'm not usually like this but I'm totally anal with dental treatment.

Ta for all the good and the sarchy comments! wink

clap Glad you got it sorted. Once you get that paste in the relief is almost immediate. You may or may not need another dollop in a few days. See, we're not all bad biggrin
