Urticaria, pregnancy & a nasty 24hrs!
Discussion
Hi all.
I'm having a bit of a vent because I've had a lousy 24hrs but also to see if anyone's got any ideas for the relief of an allergic urticaria type reaction.
Mrs PBF is 7 weeks pregnant
No morning sickness so far but the last 24 hours have been an absolute nightmare.
Was fine yesterday but in the late afternoon she started to get a few what looked like heat lumps. They got steadily worse and by bedtime were covering her with 'nettle-rash'.
Very itchy, very painful, very angry-looking.
She got something of a temperature and felt sick at about 1 in the morning.
At which point she collapsed. Three times.
It probably only took 4 or 5 minutes for the ambulance to arrive but it felt like an absolute eternity. I've done many first aid courses in my time. And it all flies right out the fking window when faced with your wife near enough out cold on the floor. I never want to be in that position again.
Cue one ambulance and a car - they must've heard how troublesome she can be!
Bit of trouble getting her downstairs but she recovered enough to shuffle down, in even more pain because she dislocated her toe when falling! (See what I mean by troublesome'? :-) )
Oxygen started to perk her up a bit.
Off to Fazakerley A&E with me driving behind - you can imagine how I felt...
Hats off to the emergency side of the NHS - they were all absolutely fantastic I have to say.
They gave some Piriton to deal with the allergic reaction (we don't really know what kicked it off, possibly some seeded bread) and it did get a bit better. (And put the toe back).
But today hasn't seen much improvement. Off to GP this eve. Prescription for more Piriton & instructions just to keep going with it. She's in so much pain with it, awful to see.
She's in bed now, covered in calomine lotion whilst I sit here and daren't even have a drink in case anything happens tonight.

Pregnancy's a funny thing - the hormone deliveries cause bizarre and completely random effects
And if it persists, get calamine cream from the chemist instead of the lotion - it doesn't set and go crusty in the same way
Hope she improves

Seems to be a little better, still in quite some discomfort though.
Tried both types of calomine & the GP suggested Sodium Bicarb in the bath which has possibly helped a little.
Those anti-histamine have a cumulative effect, so they need a few days to build up in the system and start working. Could it be heat related? It is very hot at the mo - An ex gf had a similar issue and she found that cool spray stuff in a can very effective to relieve the symptoms. HTH
Cheers.
Cheers.
