I have one and it fookin hurts as it is sat on a siatic nerve on my leg. The docs have given me some pain killers that dont work and I am waiting for an appointment from a physiotherapist that seem to never arrive.

So I am hobbling around in pain so has anyone one else on here had this happen to them and what did you do to ease the pain or make it better

Cheers

I have two and I know the pain all too well. I had the physio, the acupunture, the backfit classes the whole 9 wearing a T shirt and I'm still fooked.......sorry....There is an op available but I was advised against in my case. Try to keep the weight down and you will be shown how to strengthing the internal stomach muscles. That with being careful and the odd pankillers should see you through....smile

Had the same thing, was agony in my right leg when sat down. As driving is a large part of my job it meant six months off work on SSP for five of those six months.
The scan showed my L5 disc was buggered so they performed a microdiscectomy and things are pretty much now fine with just the odd ache and clonk.

With painkillers I thought they were doing not alot until I stopped taking them on the day of the op, then the real pain hit.
I was on a fair amount of codine and diazipam.

Try and push for a referal to a spinal doc and scan.

Somehow missed that thread. I had the same done last year - as a result of losing an argument with a horse - after suffering about 6 months really bad sciatic pain/numbbness. It was amazing how quickly I got back to doing all the things I hadn't been able to due to the pain.

I went and done it again in February and this time, I have been advised to put off surgery as long as I can. Dr sent me to a physio and based on thier recommendation I've been doing lots (but not enough) of the work on the inner stomach muscles as mentioned above. Hamstring stretching exercises are also recommended by my physio - apparently if your hamstrings are too tight it pulls on the hips/pelvis and kind of changes the mechanics of how you walk making things worse. It made more sense when she explained it. That and with swimming (which I hate), cycling & walking (after strecthing hamstrings & no running obviously) and generally just getting fitter all seem to be helping keep it at bay.

I can feel it most of the time, but as long as I'm doing the above, it's more of a niggle or a reminder to be nice to my back than a pain. If I stop the above it takes about three days before I'm reaching for the pill bottle.
