I've only been involved in the uro-gynae kind so not sure if it's the same.
Bladder is filled with water using a catheter to see how much it can hold and whether there's any leakage. Then you have to wee on a special toilet that measures how the wee comes out and shows it on a graph. Then another catheter is used to see if there's any urine left in the bladder after you've finished.
Been a few years since I was in a uro-gynae clinic and only ever dealt with old ladies, but I know plenty of people in the business if you need anything specific answering.

I've had one, and thank god, no catheters involved (although have had a cytoscopy, but that's another story).

Went like this for me:

Drink a couple of pints of water, no weeing 2-3 hours before the appointment.
Had an ultrasound while bladder was full.
Wee-ed into a special toilet that measures (presumably) how fast you fill the "jug" (hence flow-rate).
X-rayed afterwards with empty bladder.

Piece of cake. All the best.

Thank you all! Really put my mind at ease.
I was expecting to have to pee in front of 20 odd student nurses with stop watches or something to that effect.
