Been having a feeling of pressure on my bladder for a month or so. Doc put me on anti-biotics for a (presumed) bladder infection. It got worse not better. Then stronger course - get's steadily worse still (now need pain relief). Take urine test - nothing showing. Lots of prodding around and nothing obvious.

I do have private health care and was thinking of going private now. In the meantime, any PH docs have a view?

Are you sure it's your bladder?

While your doc is trying to find the problem, have you tired Uva Ursa (think that's the spelling)from health food store, and home made barley water. (Boil pot barley until it looks like murky water, then strain the water into a jug, add fruit juice to taste.) Very soothing to the urinary tract. My other half gets a tenderness in the bladder quite often.

It may be Prostatitis which is an inflammation of the prostate which is quite common. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostatitis

Note in the wikipedia article that for type 3 Prostatitis antibiotics are not recommended.

My doctor recommended cutting down on dairy products. I cut dairy products completely from my diet and it worked wonders. The "throbbing" disappeared and I also lost couple of kilos smile

Also read up on Bisphenol A. Low doses of bisphenol A can mimic the body's own hormones, possibly causing negative health effects.

The Doc did play marbles with my prostate until I said to him: "I can't believe there are people who do that for fun!" and he finally relented! Anyhow, nothing untoward was found.

Thanks for the tips, I'll look into those.

Interesting. I actually like barley water without fruit juice to ruin it. Just add a tiny bit of sugar. And eat the barley. Yum.

Not got any urinary tract problems, though. I'll pretend. nuts

biggrin

I went through that funky experience too and my doc found nothing either. Enlargement of the prostate, which the doctor is feeling for, is not necessarily a symptom of Prostatitis or so I believe. Especially if you are relatively young.

If you are overweight and/or out of shape I am sure changing that will also help towards solving this problem.

Is it pressure and pain over the front of the abdomen over the bladder or from behind (i.e. rectal area)? Ultrasound of renal tract ( bladder and kidneys) and urinary cytology if does not go away.
Does it coincide with a change in your daily routine ? so many weird pains are the result of subtle muscle ligament strains brought about this way. Keep us informed.

It's over the front of my abdomen - quite often sending a shooting pain down my inside leg! Sometimes it feels like someone has kicked me in the nuts! It's okay for the first hour or two of the day, but gets steadily worse.

When my missus was heavily pregnant she used to complain that the baby was pressing against her bladder making her feel uncomfortable - it's how I imagine that must feel. But, because I'm a bloke, far more painful. wink

Me again smile

What you describe in your most recent post could be a symptom of kidney stones being passed through the system. Large kidney stones have to be smashed by ultrasound waves, if I remeber correctly, but small kidney stones, the size of sand, can pass through the system without treatment but can cause similar symptoms to what you describe.
