I have suddenly started to get very severe 'tennis elbow'. I used to get it in the past but never as bad as I am now.

Here are a few of the things that bring it on:

- Chucking a ball (rugby, tennis, cricket)
- Using a cricket bat
- Session at a golf driving range
- Playing tennis/badminton (specifically smash shots in badminton and serves in tennis)

All it takes is about 10-15 mins of one of the above and I start getting sharp throbbing pains in my elbow. 20 mins or more and my elbow will be so sore I find it hard to even raise my arm on it's own.

I'm normally very good with pain (many broken bones, dislocations in the past and i've never made a meal of it), so i don't think this is psychological. Yet it seems that after a nights sleep (or 24 hours rest) the next day the pain is almost completely gone!

Does anybody else suffer this and know the remedy?

go to a physio... they should be able to sort it within a few sessions

...or just say that's tough luck and that'll be £xxx please.

Had it for years and I've never found a solution frown

is yours as bad as my description? any advice/tips to speed up recovery when it happens? i've tried ice and tuby grips but neither seem to do anything.

it's breaking my balls because i like to play a lot of sports and currently i have to limit myself to 15 mins before handing in a sicknote!

Mine's worse than that usually. I can throw a cricket ball full pelt about 5 times and start to feel the pain sometimes. That's putting everything into the throw though. I find if I don't go mad and play at say 75% of my max the pain doesn't always start.

Only recovery that works for me is stop the activity and if it's really bad pain killers.

I used to get this when playing squash...really nasty.

I had to stop playing, and it stopped pretty quickly after.

Subesquently diagnosed with AS, so that may have been a factor but who knows?

A good friend of mines mum used to get tennis elbow REALLY badly, she used to have cortisone injections but said they hurt more than the condition itself.

Best of luck

Never actually met any tennis players with this condition until now.People usually end up needing depot steroid injection which normally sorts it.Rarely an operation is required for resistant cases.

interesting - i think i may try to go see a physio then as it sounds like there aren't any home remedies...

weirdly i went to the gym yesterday and didn't get it at all lifting weights... seems to be to do with the throwing/locking motion when pitching a ball or swinging a bat/racket..
